Major Texas Newspaper Endorses Joe Biden

A number of Republican and MAGA figures have reacted angrily after The Houston Chronicle, one of the biggest newspapers in Texas, endorsed President Joe Biden.

The Houston Chronicle's editorial board said they would be backing Biden in the Democratic primary and for re-election so he can "make life better" for the American people as well as prevent the "chaos, corruption and danger to the nation" that would accompany his presumed 2024 Republican challenger Donald Trump returning to the White House.

The Houston Chronicle's praise for Biden will be a boost for the Democrat as he seeks re-election in November. It remains to be seen how much of a difference the endorsement will make, seeing as Texas has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate for nearly 50 years, with Trump beating Biden in 2020 by six points in the red state.

In their editorial, the paper's board admit that Biden "has his shortcomings," but what his administration has achieved during his time in office is a "potent reminder to his fellow Democrats, to independents and to those Republicans who have somehow resisted Trump's cultish appeal that the nation has a viable alternative."

I lived in the Houston area for a while in the early 1980s.

Both of the major Houston newspapers were Liberal organs. No surprise they would endorse Biden.

I don’t know what the Houston Chronicle used to be like but clearly the editorial board is turning left.

I subscribed to the more conservative Houston Post until they were absorbed by the Chronic-Ill in the mid-90s.

Since the Chronic-Ill took my favorite columnists from the Post, I let my subscription transfer.

The Chronic-Ill at least used to pretend to be balanced back then and I believed they endorsed W over Gore and again over Kerry.

I ended my subscription when I went overseas to work in early 2004, but I still read it whenever I was home.

By around 2010, the paper had shrunk, most of my favorite columnists had retired or moved on, the quality of writing had deteriorated and I just quit reading it.

I’m surprised anybody reads it anymore, to be honest.

This is the second time in three days that a leftist source has threatened violence if Trump is reelected. I am still convinced that much of the violence in 2020 had a major motive of creating a sense of chaos and danger which would be blamed on Trump even though the perpetrators were 98% lefties.

I think you are spot-on. The MSM went from a leftist bias 20-30 years ago to - beginning about 15 years ago - all-out leftist advocacy, propaganda, and calls for the suppression of dissenting views. With the arrival of Trump, this went off the charts and has now become a state of obsession bordering on psychosis.
