A Utah teenager plunged hundreds of feet to his death when he stopped to take photos with buddies at a scenic overlook and fell over the edge, according to officials.
Thrill-seeking 19-year-old Jonathan Fielding died Saturday in what authorities believe was an accident while he was hiking near Moonscape Overlook, KUTV reported.
Fielding, an avid photographer, and two friends went to take pics near the edge of a cliff when Fielding lost his footing on shaky ground and went over the canyon edge as he attempted to find a better vantage point, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, per the station, and family said.
Fielding recently moved to the Beehive State from Missouri where he began a new job.
“He found an enormous group of friends and a group of support,” family friend Connor Parry told the outlet. “He was a special kid, and it’s important to keep that energy and that smile he brought to every conversation.”

“Doing what he loved”. That is to say, Being Stuck on Stupid.
If that is a quotable line from that movie, I am glad I trusted my instincts and never saw that movie.
I’ve been watching some youtube video by a geology professor from Idaho. Even in Utah and Idaho there are lots of crumbling rock structures. A few brewskies and an a twist of the ankle and down you go..

Haven't done it since.

I fail to see how taking a selfie brings greatness to the world.
I've been on rivers with ankle deep water and a strong current, I knew how dangerous those are. A few days before our arrival, three people went over the falls: a young women who slipped while taking a selfie, and two men who tried to save her. Darwin won again.
I don’t think those lines came from Chesterton or Wittgenstein.
The hated toward computer games is strong. Why don’t you specify what you do for entertainment and relaxation so others can mock your choices.
When I was at the Cliffs of Moher, it was raining and the wind was blowing so hard, I didn’t even try the climb.

Egad! I took the time to read that. Well, at least she/he/it could write, but the content was deserving of criticism.
In my opinion, sometimes you have to decide the hill you are willing to die on. And the pronunciation of your name isn’t generally one of them, unless you are so thin-skinned or privileged that it is.
I would have liked to read the original “article” that spawned the derision.
Looks like the Maneater took down her article. But here it is on FR.
You can’t fix stupid.

What are the odds that you come from an unbroken line of survivors?
I’ve survived a number of very close calls over the years. Some lessons learned to pass along unto the grandkids.
