A Missouri mom has been accused of baking her newborn daughter to death in an oven after allegedly mistaking it for a crib.
Mariah Thomas, 26, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after one-month-old Za’Riah Mae was found dead with 'burn wounds', according to an arrest warrant.
Cops were called to the mom's Kansas City home to reports of a child not breathing on Friday- the day after Thomas' birthday.
When they arrived, they found the infant covered in burns, with her 'blackened' clothing melted onto her diaper.
A devastated friend of Thomas' told DailyMail.com that Za'Riah was a 'very bubbly' baby, who was 'smiling all the time'. She also suggested Thomas' mental health may have played a role in the tragedy.
'Mariah had mental issues from what I know and didn’t have the mindset of a adult, she thought like a child,' the friend said, adding she last talked to the mom on Monday.
Za'Riah's grandfather told police he received a call from her mom at around 1pm on Friday in which she told him 'something was wrong with the baby and he needed to return home immediately'.
On returning home immediately began to smell smoke and found Za'Riah dead in her crib.
Thomas told him she had 'accidentally' put her in the oven, according to court filings.
Za'Riah was discovered by police in a car seat inside her home with 'apparent thermal injuries on various parts of a her body'.

Wow.
I have a hard time believing that anybody could be distracted enough to put a baby in the oven, believing it to be something else.
I’m guessing that she may have been in an altered state through the use of drugs. There is no way this could have happened to somebody of a sound mind.
If not drugs or alcohol it could be a case of retardation or brain tumor.
I know of drunks going to the wrong house thinking they were home, or urinating in their bedroom chest of drawers because they thought it was a toilet.
So who got her pregnant?
The real questions.
Who raped her and who left her alone with a baby?
That would be a good question. A relative or a man who did a run on her.

Media shouldn’t have used the words “bubbly baby”...

That poor poor child.
What ARE we doing? No one used to do this kind of stuff! It was unthinkable! Yet here it is in story after story....
So she put her baby in the oven she thought was a crib. Ok, but where she loses me is at the point that she turned the “crib” to 350 degrees.
I’m not buying it.
Front-loading baby cribs must be banned! Next thing you know, they’ll be loading their kids into laundry machines.
Even if you pretend that one could mistake an oven for a crib, outside “Hansel and Gretel,” how does this happen?
I wouldn’t put a baby into a crib that was set at 350 degrees.
I’ve put babies down many hundreds of times, and never once would I have failed to notice a crib temperature that high.
This was murder.

I am not either.
Where I’m lost is how the baby went from the oven to in the house to in a car seat...there’s more to this story.
EXECUTE NOW!!
I had one of those show up at my house in the middle of the night once. I was up late watching a movie in the living room at about 2:30 am when out of nowhere I suddenly heard someone trying to open my front door. That will certainly get your attention, let me tell you. Fortunately for him, the door was locked or there would have been a very different outcome.
In the few seconds it took me to peek out the front window he was already inside my wife’s car, sitting in the driver’s seat (yeah, she left it unlocked - I lectured her afterward). I thought he was trying to steal it, but while I was on the phone with 911 he just sat there. As I watched him, it became obvious that he was very disoriented and likely drunk or on something. There was a humorous moment when I decided to take my 10 million candlepower spotlight and shine it out the window into his eyes. His only reaction was to pull his jacket up over his face to shield his eyes, but he just sat there. By then, my wife was awake and at the window with me. He was starting to fumble around trying to open the door to get out, so my wife grabbed her key fob and kept locking the door again to keep him trapped until the cops showed up. It was pretty hilarious later.
The cops finally got there and had to pull him out of the car because he wasn’t cooperating. Turned out he was a 21 year-old kid who was drunk and thought he was at his house, even though his actual home was about 15 or 20 miles away. In the aftermath we discovered that he had driven there in his own car, a jeep, and must have circled our cul-de-sac a couple of times judging by the tire tracks through the neighbors’ front yards and the utility box he ran over. He must have thought he was getting back into his car when he entered my wife’s car.
In the end, no malice involved, just a stupid drunk kid, but he is very lucky he didn’t get through that front door. We had a different outcome in our general area when a drunk girl managed to enter someone’s home in the middle of the night and walked into their bedroom, whereupon she was shot and killed. Both of these incidents should serve as warnings to permissive parents who think that letting their kids get drunk is no big deal because it’s just some rite of passage. On the contrary, it can easily get these kids killed in a number of ways beyond the obvious, like DUI.
Make that 3 of us.
