A missing military helicopter was found in Southern California Wednesday morning, but a search and rescue operation continues for five missing Marines on board, the U.S. Marine Corps said.
The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was "reported overdue" to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Tuesday night. The helicopter departed from Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas and was en route to Miramar, in the San Diego area.
The sheriff's department said it received a call at 1:50 a.m. and sent its own helicopter to search, but the helicopter wasn't able to reach the area due to the atmospheric river storm hitting the region. The sheriff's department said it then sent off-road vehicles to navigate the rough terrain.

does not sound good at least if there has not been any radio contact
If the crash was so severe that there were no comms able to come from wreckage and occupants it doesn’t bode likely that they are intact and trying to walk out for help while under no radio comms. Prayers up
I live in San Diego and used to fly out of Miramar when it was an NAS. The weather in the area has been miserable since Monday, and no decent break until Friday. Snow level down to 4-5K feet and icing conditions. The Super Stallion can fly in instrument weather, but it’s an old airframe. Don’t know it’s anti-icing capabilities.
This is a strangely worded report. If the helicopter was found, did it just land, unable to take off, or did it crash? In either case, the Marines, or their bodies, should still be in it or or nearby.
Perhaps further information will be released after family members have been notified.
“We’re watching this closely,” White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said.
That’s an interesting comment coming from the same administration that didn’t seem to care about two Navy Seals lost in the Arabian Sea or the three soldiers killed in the drone attack in Jordan.
This was a training flight. The helicopter was found, presumably without anyone on board. That gives some hope. Was there a diversity component to this training flight that the White House is concerned about?
EC
Why were they even flying in that storm
See my question above
Media stupidity again. There is simply no way a military helicopter could truly go missing.
They sent those SEALs out in raging sea conditions, another question about the timing and urgency of the mission. Was it driven by someone in the pentagon or WH wanting a “ Iran weapon smuggling” story for the daily Red Sea briefing, to justify the mission there and try to pump up the appearance of success…
How do we know it crashed. No mention of a wreckage site. It just says the helicopter was found. If the marines were dead they’d be right in the immediate area. And imma theorize that if it crashed most of those guys would be dead or severely injured. This report sounds somewhat odd. Just sayin.
What could go wrong by sending a helicopter from Las Vegas to San Diego in the midst of a major rain storm?
Yes, none of this makes sense. They found the helicopter. If the occupants were in it and dead the word used would have been “recovery”. You can’t rescue dead people, so that indicates they are alive but walked away from the wreck, which also doesn’t make sense. What, they went for ice cream?
And no, I’m not prone to buy into wild conspiracy theories by nature.
Don’t know. The helicopter is capable of flying in less than ideal conditions, and the pilots would be instrument qualified. The weather at Miramar might have been above minimums at their planned arrival time; we’ve had short breaks in the weather. Wouldn’t think they were using night vision goggles in these conditions. Best hope is they had to make an emergency landing. Would’ve expected them to remain with the aircraft, unless conditions made them seek a lower elevation. All crewmen should be equipped with a survival radio. Fingers crossed.
Such a poorly written story. They don’t indicate the condition of the helicopter when found, whether the crew’s gear was still in it, or anything useful. Almost sounds like an article written to camouflage some Biden operation crap.
Yes it is definitely a fluid situation
The SEAL story doesn’t ring true.
All they had was one little boat?
The Commander thought conducting a search was more important than rescuing two team members?
Baloney.
More Democrat lies.
Joe will claim that Beau was on the helicopter.
Horrible journalism, poorly titled and written.
