Its hybrid three-piece cartridge case has a steel case head and brass body connected by an aluminum locking washer to support the high chamber pressure of 80,000 psi.

A SIG Frankenstein, useless to sport shooters, going nowhere.

80000 psi won’t work in many combat situations.

A combat arm is not supposed to be for distance shooting. It is to put lead downrange and a lot of it if necessary. Anyone else think this is a method of making .223 and .556 ammo less available?

The pressure at the muzzle must be extremely high resulting in a very large muzzle blast.

“..Anyone else think this is a method of making .223 and .556 ammo less available?..”

Without a doubt.
However, for those that reload, it’s a relatively easy round to do, even on a progressive press. There are zillions of spent brass out there capable of being reloaded with a huge variety of bullet weights and common powders.

Why not go to the AR-57 that uses 5.7x28mm rounds with FN P90 magazines?

A 50-round magazine aligns along the top of the barrel and the expended brass ejects down through the empty magazine well. You can use an empty magazine without the spring as a shell catcher. They even make hollow magazines to direct the rounds down, out, and farther away from the shooter's feet.

It is an answer to a specific situation. If the US Army find itself in that situation, it will have the ideal rifle. If it finds itself in a different situation, …

80,000 psi is going to wear out barrels in pretty short order.

You can reload the .223 Win cases for .223 OR you can do a little surgery on the brass to make a 300BLK case. The BCG for .223 and 300BLK are identical. When I build my upper, I include a laser engraved dust cover with the .223 or 300BLK marking. You don't want to chamber a 300BLK into .223 barrel.

The Ruger LCC is a 5.7x28 rifle. It uses the same magazines as the Ruger 5.7x28 pistol. The AR57 has more magazine capacity and down ejection vs out the right side with the LCC.
