The utter abject lack of knowledge, OF ANY KIND AT ALL, that now passes for an "okay" comment, is appalling in the extreme! And add to that, is the awe inducing inability, of far too many, to write a grammatically correct sentence or two and don't get me started on the spelling; your for YOU'RE, and on and on!

The "Downside Legacy at Two Degrees of President Clinton" is the personal cyber-notepad of Alamo-Girl, the unofficial, unappointed secretary/archivist of what is the most active conservative political forum on the world wide web, the Free Republic. Forum participants refer to the list by its initials, DSL.
The DSL is limited to the downside (darkside) of William Jefferson Clinton and includes questionable people, circumstances and events surrounding Bill Clinton i.e., two degrees of separation from the Presidency. The focus at two degrees was deemed necessary to understand the downside of a powerful man who has many surrogates.
It is a reference tool used in research and educational projects on the forum. It is formatted as a list within the various groupings. Most entries are quotations of excerpts from sourced news articles, congressional records, press releases and transcripts. Some entries are derived as timelines and lists of names. The format is intended to help the reader locate a full range of sources applicable to a particular topic, a particular article or a group of related articles.
The DSL does not propose any theories or answer any questions. The DSL is dynamic, subject to continuing authentication, editing, correction and expansion.

Politically, the site's point of view ranges from conservative to round-the- right-bend, but you'll not find a more politically powerful use of Internet technology. "Freepers" as they call themselves, cull news stories and audio clips from all over the Net, post them in sequence on the site and then comment on them. It is sort of the ultimate clipping service for the anti-Washington, anti-Clinton crowd and a practice that harks back to the earliest days of colonial journalism, when every paper had its own well- expressed viewpoint and most stories were developed within that framework.
Although I rarely wax sloppily sentimental about the First Amendment, I think this is one of the strengths of the Internet-based news system, which is really no system at all, and exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind. About the only thing wrong with it is that there is no Free Republic of the Left. As of late, this site has also been the best place to find out what the mainstream press is saying about the various Clinton scandals. As with Slate, this was once the sort of priceless material that took a couple of full-time White house aides to assemble into daily news summaries.."

Both are done by people who do not have the media's stamp of approval, which although has some dangers, also returns the United States to the days when the average person could publish pamphlets about something they believed in and receive a response....
Today's mainstream media has done a lot to smother and ignore the opinions of the public, but the Free Republic is attempting to bring that voice back. It's a service they perform well.

She told me once that links are broken because she stopped updating it and changed her website to do something else. She was having medical problems and just lost the desire to keep it up. That was a few years back, actually about 6 I believe
I wish there was a way to get ahold of her files, then someone could redo them and keep them for posterity purposes.
I fear that one day everything I wrote will be gone, because no-one will care about them as much as I do. And who is going to spend the money to keep a website funded perpetually to keep them up. Even big name media outlets as they continue to lose money may one day shutdown and stop spending money to keep things archived.
Microfiche was much better, because they were images of hard copy files that still exist in a closet someplace, but digital only lasts as long as someone keep the files from getting deleted.

Sandi helped with something I wanted to write as a first post, in 1999.

Dec 18, 1998 is my anniversary date.
It was great year with hundreds of thousands joining FreeRepublic that years. At one time it was the largest forum on the WWW.
I forgot that was even me that posted that, I do remember some breaking news, I was glued to FR, and I told someone, keep posting, I have to take a shower but I’ll be back!

Long, long ago, I posted a comment and somehow the word I had intended, was something else when I posted the comment ( CLAM, instead of CALM )and...BOOM, that goofed up word became a "new" thing here. Nobody hassled me, I got NOT nasty garbage posted to me; everyone just laughed.
Today, that would be an excuse to harass me and hurl stupid insults. :-(
