The United States Hospital transport steamer Cosmopolitan, Capt. A.C. CROOKER, arrived at this port yesterday afternoon, bringing 222 sick and wounded soldiers from the Department of the South.
The Cosmopolitan left Port Royal at 7 o'clock on the evening of the 21st, making the trip in 65 hours. Her medical officers are Assistant Surgeon EDWARD BULELEY, of the Sixth Connecticut Volunteers, and HORACE P. PORTER, of the Seventh.
Three deaths occurred on the passage -- JOHN WAGNER, of the One Hundred and Sixty-ninth New-York; WILLIAM DAVIS, One Hundred and Forty-fourth New-York Volunteers, and one other.
The Fulton was to leave Port Royal on the 23d. She will be due here on Tuesday.

HILTON HEAD, S.C., Thursday, Jan. 21, 1864.
Nothing of unusual interest has transpired at this point since the date of my last dispatch. The shelling of Charleston from Fort Putnam is continued night and day, at intervals of ten minutes. One gun alone has fired over 1,100 rounds, at an elevation of forty degrees. Charleston is gradually crumbling under this incessant bombardment. We often observe dense clouds of smoke arising from some portion of the city, which is considered good evidence that our firing is effective.
Occasionally we send a few missiles to Moultrie or Johnson, or some other rebel work, which are reluctantly replied to by the enemy. For some weeks past the enemy has evinced an unmistakable desire to be let alone. He invariably waits for an attack before using his pieces.
We do not observe any changes of note along the borders of the rebel lines.
