Steve Garvey is sitting in the backseat of his Hyundai Genesis outside Ruben’s Bakery & Mexican Food in South Los Angeles; Ryan, his son, sits in the driver’s seat. Inside await a gaggle of TV cameras and on-lookers, eager for their chance to brush up against California baseball history.
It’s nothing Garvey, 75, hasn’t seen before. Since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers more than half a century ago, fans from all parts of the world have flocked to his side for a handshake or an autograph. But today is different. Garvey is on the campaign trail, promoting his Republican run for California’s open U.S. Senate seat.
He reaches back into the trunk, where he keeps a fresh case of tissue-wrapped Rawlings baseballs. He takes one, slides it into the pocket of his black puffer vest, and opens the car door.
It’s the third stop of what has already been a long day of campaigning in Southern California. As soon as Garvey steps into the bakery, cameras swarm. Smiling, he reaches across the metal countertop to shake the hand of Ruben Ramirez Sr., wearing a blue L.A. Dodgers ball cap for the occasion. Garvey then turns to shake the hand of Ramirez’s wife, Alicia, who is sporting a Dodgers’ scarf.

In their system this would be enough to advance to a run-off !
The real winner is Adam Schiff, the leading Democrat. If not for Garvey, Schiff might have to face a Democrat in the November runoff. But by facing a Republican in the runoff, Schiff is guaranteed to win.
Garvey. He was sunk 30 yesrs ago by not controlling “little Willie”
I have to imagine that the GOP doesn’t want him to win.
I thought most of the republicans evacuated
Schiffhead will be the next Senator from California.
Garvey may not strike out, but will get thrown out at second.
The umpire is on the payroll of the other team.
That’s awful. What a scoundrel.
Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no."

“Garvey. He was sunk 30 yesrs ago by not controlling “little Willie””
Unlike Camel-toe Harris who’s career was launched because she had firm control of “little Willie.”
I’m reminded about that journalistic rule that if a headline asks a question, nine times out of ten, the answer is a solid “NO”.
He cannot win in Kalifornia.
We now live at (for the most part) “undisclosed locations”.
Remove the cheat and GOP can win anywhere....dem ideas just suck.
Don't be absurd.
It will be Schiffhead and Garvey in the general; but we’re talking about California, so Schiffhead will be taking Feinstein’s senate seat.

Angelino-sad but true. Perhaps Garvey can make us proud by going down fighting. Should he go for broke and hand Schiff the seat or do WE stand with Barbara Lee? She’s not exactly a pain in the ass. Her sole vote against the Iraq war looks more and more like a profile in courage. True to her beliefs.Would no brazenly lie. The highlight of last night was Garvey’s you can’t take it back comment.
Though you are a fellow combatant here behind enemy lines in CA, I disagree. I think Garvey will place second in the jungle primary, and advance to the general. In my view, the vast majority of the rat voters in this state are robotic simpletons, not ideologues. They might vote for the shiny object, regardless of party. Being stupid and ignorant, most have never even heard of Schiff and, if you can imagine the campaign ads, I think Garvey’s are going to be a lot more appealing, as will he, over Schiff. I give Garvey a solid 33% chance of winning the general.
Many have bought the commiecrat narrative (lies) that California is totally democrat based on their years of cheating in elections. If the L.A. fireworks wasn’t enough to convince you, why would democrats need to keep Trump off of the CALIFORNIA ballot if they thought the state was “safely in democrat control”???
