Throughout the winter, spring, and summer of 1940, there was much speculation as to whether Roosevelt would break with longstanding tradition and run for an unprecedented third term. The two-term tradition, although not yet enshrined in the Constitution, had been established by George Washington when he refused to run for a third term in 1796; other former presidents, such as Ulysses S. Grant in 1880 and Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 had made serious attempts to run for a third term, but the former failed to be nominated, while the latter, forced to run on a third-party ticket, lost to Woodrow Wilson due to the split in the Republican vote. President Roosevelt refused to give a definitive statement as to his willingness to be a candidate again, and he even indicated to some ambitious Democrats, such as James Farley, that he would not run for a third term and that they could seek the Democratic nomination. However, as Nazi Germany swept through Western Europe and menaced the United Kingdom in the summer of 1940, Roosevelt decided that only he had the necessary experience and skills to see the nation safely through the Nazi threat. He was aided by the party’s political bosses, who feared that no Democrat except Roosevelt could defeat the popular Willkie.

At the July 1940 Democratic Convention in Chicago, Roosevelt easily swept aside challenges from Farley and John Nance Garner, his vice-president. Garner was a Texas conservative who had turned against Roosevelt in his second term because of his liberal economic and social policies. As a result, Roosevelt decided to pick a new running mate, Henry A. Wallace from Iowa, his Secretary of Agriculture and an outspoken liberal. That choice was strenuously opposed by many of the party’s conservatives, who felt Wallace was too radical and “eccentric” in his private life to be an effective running mate.

I don’t trust any of them ... I intend to vote for DeSantis in the Florida primary ... thinks of all the good things that Trump thinks and he also has the legal knowledge necessary to make good things happen.

Exactly my thinking. DeSantis is the SOLE presidential candidate out there fighting against the homo indoctrination in our schools, against gain of function research, and for a balanced federal budget. And on things like the border, which is supposedly Trump's main issue, DeSantis has not only said he WILL make Mexico pay for it, he'll arm the border with the National Guard and shoot on sight. He's far to the right of Trump, which is why some people don't like him, they simply can't stomach it.

DeSantis is like an understudy at the Metropolitan Opera.

His only chance is if the star is stricken.

Jack Smith is trying to take Trump out of contention and deprive tens of millions of Americans of their effective right to vote.

Jack Smith thinks he has a chance of doing that, and so do Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.

A 100% conservative rating doesn’t mean much lately.

If you support the left’s political persecution of Trump, then you aren’t a conservative.

If as a representative you support the left’s open border by not actively voting against policies encouraging more to travel here then you aren’t a conservative. If you vote for a bill that gives amnesty to any group here illegally then you are not a conservative.

If you vote for more spending and no budget cuts, then you aren’t a conservative.

If you aren’t loudly objecting to the continued imprisonment of the Jan 6th defendants, then you are not a conservative.

If you aren’t supporting legislation for more secure elections (voter ID) then you aren’t a conservative.

Therefore, if someone screams that a representative has a 100% conservative rating, I’ll have to research more deeply into their past voting record before just taking them at their word.

That is what it is all about.

In the primary stage, support for other candidates other than the leader is fine as long as it is positive and strengthens the Republican team.

If Bob Good is a 100% conservative he wouldn’t be backing the want to be insider Ron DeSantis the lobbyists dream come true.

He’s just another one in it for the money train ride.

I reject your bs claims your idol is actually conservative.. He is a life long government person.. welfare recipient…. Although he did hit the donor jackpot that allows him to live high off the hog…. I cannot wait for the we need ‘sunshine’ into the ‘governors’, travel and phone records…lawsuits... Wonder if he has ever talked with Jack or Harvard Smith?

he is clueless how to do anything in the private sector withou a legion of advisors.

You meant "principles", right? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah. This is not a division of the Republican party at all.

It is drawing a lone between conservatives (the heart and soul of the GOP — don’t forget, they were formed to fight slavery) and RINO’s. The latter need to be cut out and thrown to the side — let the hyenas of the DNC slaughter them.

Nooo.. I mean ‘principal’, these that run around touting their conservative principles always wear begging clothes.. they use the word ‘principle’ deceptively…. Probably come up by some Frankie Luntz data mine… or some other campaign strategists..

I said in my post I don’t fully trust any politicians. And DeSantis is hardly the one with an “idol worship” issue...

You cannot even be honest with yourself.. you blame President Trump for the homosexual agenda…. President Trump was nowhere on the political or religious scene when homosexuality was given legal status.. Who was in charge of ‘lawsuits’ when the supremes went against GOD.. what part is ‘Remember Lot's wife do you not understand’? Only the Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son will clean up the human depravity on display.

You really ought to spend all this time itching all thing President Trump and find out what Christ said would need be!

Your savior Ron Duh-Saintis, on his mission to serve Jesus, is a Roman Catholic…. I have yet to hear him rebuke pappy Francis for including homosexuality as catholic doctrine. Oh and that doctrine of controlling climate change.. talke about demonic hubris. Wake up and get away from the spit and whittle joints.

"So WTF is YOUR winning formula? Everybody Dump Trump and swing in behind Nikki? Or the even further behind Midget from Florida that no one wants?"

My solution: let everybody make up their own minds based on their evaluation of past performances and positions without hurling insults at people whose choice you disagree with. I'm voting for Trump, but good God, the Trump uber-alles crowd here sure turns me off.

Congressmen and Senators must be loyal to the Constitution and their constituents. Loyalty tests to a leader sound a little creepy to be honest. Everyone just needs to do their job.
