Brooklyn pizzeria owner spent $60K of his own money to pick up street trash after city failed to

Meet New York City’s good neighbor.

For the last year, Sean Feeney, a finance veteran turned restaurateur, has been quietly padding out his resume with some major dirty work: garbage.

It’s an unsavory business. But in our city where trash is so ubiquitous it’s starting to feel like a coordinated street art project designed to offend the senses, the 43-year-old owner of Brooklyn’s Fini Pizza has taken a personal interest in its disposal.

Instead of flooding 311 with futile complaints about the muck, Feeney opened his cash register to help clean up his section of Williamsburg and now Downtown Brooklyn with an initiative he calls “clean streets.”

60 grand? I can't fathom the cost of business in a place like Brooklyn.

For $60,000, he probably could have set up some sort of internal operation to handle all the garbage except for the most difficult stuff.

“Instead of flooding 311 with futile complaints…”

Yeah spend sixty grand rather than use the special line to inform the city of a problem that you already pay for and is their responsibility. At least then get the hell rid of the 311!line.

The $60K would have been better spent if it had been used to clean out the garbage in NY City Hall.

Good point. In some places, the city/town claims ownership of the trash, so picking up the trash by anyone other than the authorities is considered theft.

I know people who have found valuable stuff in other people’s trash, including antiques and gold jewelry.

I seem to remember a story about Seattle Boy Scouts painting bus stops and the union demanding money because it was a union job to do the painting.

In Brooklyn? Nah there ain't.

You can't take a pix from middle America and try to put it in NY.

New Yorkers make fun of us dumb ass hicks that coached Little League, were den mothers for Girl Scouts, or wasted a Sunday morning going to Church.

Volunteer Fire Fighter? Hell no.

Pick up trash along a highway, "Get oudda here".

Shovel your elderly neighbor's driveway, NFW.

City dwellers won't help an old lady getting mugged, ya think they will clean the streets?

I applaud what this guy is doing, I'm only shocked that the local thugs haven't yet destroyed or stolen the new trash cans.

Its Williamsburg. Its a mecca for idiot woke Yuppies in NYC who don’t mind paying 60% of their income for various taxes, and having such terrible government, they still need to arrange their own garbage collection

I had read about New York Mayor Guliani and the broken window theory. My neighborhood entrance was a mile down the road from a major intersection where there was a McDonalds. There was years’ worth of trash from the McDonalds to the entrance of my subdivision. One Saturday I took a bunch of garbage bags out and spent hours picking up every piece of trash. I mean everything, including cigarette butts. The place looked like an unused country road when I was done. It was still trash free when I left three years later. If someone sees a bit of trash it makes it permissible to throw your McDonald’s trash out the window. No trash, no permission, no throwing out the window. It was amazing.

I'm sure some local trash union will be along to collect for "stealing union jobs."

The SEIU and Teamsters have various locals covering the trash collection gig.

Nice pizzeria ya got there.....shame if sumtin happened to it.

“There was years’ worth of trash from the McDonalds to the entrance of my subdivision.”

The McDonald’s franchise here sends people out to pick up all identifiable trash originating with them in surrounding areas.
