COLUMBIA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Alex Murdaugh is in court on Tuesday for a hearing related to his push for a new double murder trial.
The status conference began at 9:30 a.m. at the Richland County Courthouse. FOX Carolina’s Grace Runkel is in court for the hearing and will have a recap on The 4:00 News.
Murdaugh was convicted for the June 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie and youngest son Paul. In March 2023, Murdaugh was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences after a six-week trial.
The status conference comes ahead of Murdaugh’s hearing on Monday, Jan. 29, to see if he can get a new murder trial. That hearing is set to take place in Richland County where Murdaugh’s attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin will get to provide evidence of an alleged jury tampering by Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill.
Murdaugh’s defense team filed a motion for a new trial claiming the jury in his original case was swayed by Hill; however, Hill has denied those allegations.
Former South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal will preside over the trial.

What a family! Absolutely disgusting!
One of the many,many reasons why I'm glad that I don't drink..at all...and that I don't do drugs...at all.People do stupid things when drunk and they do stupid things when high,as well as when they're trying to get high.
Those jurors are going to be harassed by Judges, PI’s and Attorneys for the next twenty years if Mourdaugh can’t get his conviction over turned.
By his own admission and evidence he was addicted to oxycodone.....and money.
The current issue is in regards to his accusation that a court clerk had inappropriate contact with a juror or jurors during the murder trial which is why he claims he should get a new trial.
A man that would INTENTIONALLY kill his own child who loved him has absolutely no right to live................
To save himself!!!!! And not to even save his own life but to make like easier for himself.
This POS should be strung up on the courthouse lawn in front of a crowd and live TV cameras..................
