Chicago's progressive mayor refuses to answer THREE times when asked if he'll raise city's taxes to help pay for the migrant crisis

Brandon Johnson has refused to state whether he'll raise his city's taxes to pay for the migrant crisis - despite being asked three times in a new interview.

The Windy City's mayor made the comments - or lack thereof - during a sitdown with CBS 2's Sabrina Franza Thursday, where talks hovered around the yearly task of setting a city budget.

The discussion, however, quickly turned to his predecessors' pledge to house arriving asylum seekers - a promise he has vowed to continue, after an estimated 20,000 entered Chicago last year alone.

As the two spoke, more than 500 migrants were waiting to be placed in one of the 27 temporary shelters the city has set out for them, with roughly 200 staying in warming buses at the city's landing zone.

With those facilities now packed - and busses arriving from states like Texas on the daily - Franza asked the ex-teacher who succeeded Lori Lightfoot about the city's future financial response.

'Will you be adding a tax to help pay for this?' Franza asked, as officials have already spent $138 million on a crisis that is expected to worsen as temps drop.

'Well, I think people are clearly familiar with what my vision is for revenue in this city, and my revenue, of course, is committed to making sure that we are doing everything we can to address the unhoused crisis in this city,' Johnson, 47, said.

He continued: '70,000 people who are unhoused in this city are black families, and that’s why I invested a quarter of a billion dollars in my budget to do just that.'

The response seemed to stump Franza, spurring her to ask the tax question again.

But Johnson - a man brought up in a suburb of Cook County - continued to deflect...

"...and my revenue..."

You will own nothing and like it. BTW, have taxes ever come DOWN in the progressive, sanctuary city of Chiraq?

The mayor can raise taxes all by hisself?

Blue Cities are in a doom loop they won’t come out of until the cities turn into a city like in the Movie Escape from NY and maybe not even then.

Productive Citizens and Businesses move out replaced by poor Americans and illegal aliens who don’t work and pay very little in taxes, the demand for city services goes up but the revenue to pay for everything goes down which creates an impossible situation.

Look at the office vacancy rates in Major Blue cities, the buildings are empty, eventually the buildings will be converted into low-cost housing further eroding the tax base. Rinse and repeat this cycle until the cities are gone.

It’s the time-tested art of political deal-making.

You want money for a new playground in your home district? As mayor, I’ll veto that bill unless you support a small increase in taxes. Do we have a deal?

--- "Blue Cities are in a doom loop...."

Hadn't read the phrase before, but it certainly well captures the doubling and tripling down on bad policies has solely on ideology. Based on the history of Detroit and Kwame Kilpatrick or DC with Marion Barry, this surely does not bode well for the City of Chicago.

Excellent and succinct analysis, unfortunately true as well.

So in addition to being a leftist extremist he is a racist or is that part of being a leftist extremist?

My next idea of what will happen to these blue cities is how the anarchy will become apocalyptic.

It will take longer for cities like LA and San Francisco because of the money in those cities, for cities like Chicago it won’t be that much longer before it becomes an apocalypse.

All these cities are run by an ideology of destruction, where people’s worth are simply voters to keep the overlords in power and to be plundered for whatever resources these people have.

Think back to NYC in the early 1900s when all different ethnic groups from Europe were coming into Ellis Island, eventually each ethnic group moved into their own neighborhoods and gangs like the Italian Mafia were formed to plunder the citizens and police the area from outsiders.

All these 3rd world illegals getting shipped into places Chicago will eventually do the same thing.

The resentment to what’s happening is already happening from the existing citizens, complaining about whatever resources that are available going to illegals before the citizens.

The violence between these ethnic groups will spike, each side will form ever more increasingly violent gangs who will battle in the streets with each other.

With the police forces getting defunded, there is nothing to slow down the violence, the current ethnic gangs will begin protecting their areas with violence against the gangs of other ethnic areas.

It will increasingly become the 21st century version of the wild wild west on the streets of Blue Cities.

Chicago’s Mayor will 100% for sure raise taxes and where will those taxes come from ?? The remaining wealthy and middle class will be forced to pay.

The CME is located in Chicago and has been for decades, it was unthinkable for them to move out taking their jobs and wealth with them.

I predict the CME will move out of Chicago, it may remain in name only but the jobs and wealth will be gone.

The head of the CME has already stated they will leave if the current Mayor institutes a transaction on CME trades, the Mayor will eventually do exactly that because that’s where the money is.

Here’s an article about Chicago and the CME.

I have been wondering, lately, if the big, blue, sanctuary cities actually WANTED this.

They need to establish the leadership as plantation bosses, and not servants of the people. Witness the “school” in NY housing the invaders. They didn’t want to teach children, anyway, and will likely get fat money to restore a “school” that no longer teaches. The parents will just have to get used to this.

Maybe Abbott is doing what the Democrats have wanted for a long time - getting the invaders to the Blue cities so that they can restructure and forfeit on their past promises.

I’m not sure these liberal mayors are that smart to plan for an invasion of illegal aliens, they are genius when it comes to plundering their citizens and convincing them it’s all someone else’s fault.

Their only complaint right now is how fast the illegals are coming, they will use these people as voters and plunder to whatever resources they generate, driving out the productive people in the process.

Thanks for the info and link. Apparently, according to Wiki, "More than 90 percent of total volume at the exchange occurs electronically on CME Globex."

I could imagine that a change in "residency" could happen darn near overnight, should the Chicago socialists push too far too fast. I wager these socialists are not really and fully up to the "Chicago way" if it became a clear matter of "redistribution" in the Marxist manner.

California and New York are finding their reliance on super-rich paying through the nose is motivating said taxpayers to change residence at a pace startling to many who always thought the game could be played "forever."

CME residency changing is becoming a matter of "click."

I am betting their pensions are largely unfunded and they don’t care as Uncle Whitey will be paying from the US gov’t.

Or else.

This is all about votes and destroying America.

The NYSE and NASDAQ are the same way, the NYSE trades are primarily happening across the river in NJ, not on Wall Street.

All of these electronic exchanges have complete disaster recovery sites in remote locations and could switch operations in a matter of a couple of hours.

Back in 2008 or 2009 I was contracted to Bank of America on a team to reengineer the voice network nationwide to a Cisco Systems Voice System.

One of the sites I was assigned was in Columbia, SC located near Charlotte, NC where the HQ of Bank of America is located.

The site in Columbia was a Disaster Recovery site, with about 200 full time workers in a multistory nondescript building that could easily provide space for 1200 to 1500 people, we installed around 1500 phones for BofA, all the phones were setup with voice mail in the event the HQ office was taken offline for any reason, the employees could show up the next day in Columbia and ATT would have switches all their numbers to route to Columbia instead of Charlotte.

Since the Cisco Phones were soft, when the employees logged into their phones and their existing numbers and voice mail settings would get downloaded to the phones in Columbia and they could operate without issue.

I would bet the CME, NYSE, and NASDAQ have disaster recovery sites in red states that would allow them to move in 24-48 hours without an issue, make the move over a weekend and the public would never know the difference.

The worst part of the potential crisis in Chicago is that the poor and the recently-arrived illegals can just hop a commuter train and dump themselves on each and every suburb along the various routes. Distribute the poverty, that’s the ticket.

Why doesn’t the Mayor just SEIZE the Hyatt Hotels in his city to house these illegal aliens? Pritzker can afford it.
