Congressman demands the NFL stop putting playoff games on streaming services like NBC's Peacock: Fans don't deserve 'to be squeezed even further by greedy corporations'

Rep. Pat Ryan, a New York Democrat, is fed up with the NFL and NBC Sports over the decision to nationally air one of the league's six first-round playoff games exclusively on NBC's streaming platform Peacock.

"It is absolutely ridiculous that my constituents, who already pay for NBC, have to pay even more to watch this game," Ryan wrote in a letter to top NFL and NBC officials. "How much more profit do Roger Goodell and NBC need to make at the expense of hard working Americans before they are satisfied? I'm demanding the NFL and NBC stop the BS and offer fans the service they already pay for, or we're coming for your antitrust exemption."

WGAF.

Let the NFL put all their games on a streaming service, and charge everyone a billion dollars for a one-year subscription.

Pay for Dish and used to get all games by subscription. Games keep dropping off looking for more bucks. It may well be time for a new sport. Bowling?

It’s their business. Don’t like it, take your business somewhere else. NBC will have to suffer the consequences.

Corporations greedy? Maybe. Congress critters take the cake on greed, though.

It’s a shame why we let the democrats be the ones that run with this crap and thereby get all the credit for sticking up for the little guy. It’s not profits as much as it has to do with right and wrong. Taxpayers help pay for these stadiums for the privilege of being squeezed out. If the NFL wants to go full pay-per-view just go 100% private with no corporate welfare.

Where’s Trump in all this?

He’s talking about the principle, of putting playoff games on a streaming service. He’s not talking specifically about which teams are involved.

It does seem odd of him to protest since the vast majority of people in this country are paying for television, either cable, satellite , or streaming. Relatively few people have just over the air broadcast reception nowadays. If he’s trying to say that all NFL games should be on free over the air broadcast channels , that ship sailed a while back.

Consumers should just refrain from purchasing. Starve the beasts.

The NFL enjoys protections under the law, Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, so they are not entirely a private entity.

Time for the NFL to bribe Congress.

Why stop there? There are games on ESPN. Games on Prime. There are basketball games I’d like to watch but aren’t broadcast. I want all games, all the time, free. And free beer and pizza to enjoy at the games.

“Greedy corporations” — you know it’s a Democrat.

There is NO ORGANIZATION on earth more greedy than the USA federal government. A TWO TRILLION annual deficit!! How greedy can you get.

Clean up your own house first, Ryan.

Actually, being a Democrat, I’m surprised he isn’t proposing a federal plan to provide the streamed playoff games free to all POCs in the country and all illegal aliens. No whites need apply. That’s social and restorative justice.

The elites of today are very very greedy.

They see their elite peers buying a new yacht or mansion, so they have to get more money to keep up.

Evil

Here's my problem. As a consumer, you have the power to choose how to spend your entertainment dollar. If you don't want to pay the money to watch this game, you can just refrain from doing so, as you say.

But this jerkwad has no problem raising taxes. That you cannot refrain from. Who is really doing the squeazing?
