The most feared day for coaches in the NFL is here: Black Monday.
Which coaches and coordinators will be fired now that the regular season is over?
The Falcons did not waste any time and fired Arthur Smith just after midnight, and Ron Rivera received the axe Monday morning.
Three coaches were canned during the season including Josh McDaniels of the Las Vegas Raiders, Frank Reich of the Carolina Panthers and Brandon Staley from the Los Angeles Chargers.
Who’s on the coaching hot seat today? There have been rumblings coming out of New England that legendary coach Bill Belichick’s future is up in the air.

I struggle to believe Belichick would allow the team to select a player in the middle of round one he didn’t want.
He was in charge of everything there.
He may have been over ruled by Kraft.
Bill still answers to Robert Kraft, owner of the team.
Kraft likes the spotlight but to his credit does not make personnel decisions. Kraft is not overuling Belichick on football matters. That’s why the Patriots won so many Super Bowls and the Jets suck Kraft knows his limitations. The Johnson boys are making decisions they are not qualified to make.
The SEC is smoke and mirrors. They have decent teams, don't get me wrong, but they aren't the super conference they are held up to be.
Alabama was definitely beatable this year, as was every other team in the SEC. Michigan, with it's cheating scandal, will have an asterix by its championship title. The FSU debacle and subsequent walkoff by their top players means we have no idea what a real FSU v Georgia game or FSU v Michigan game could have been. The corruption on the selection committee negated any chance for an unblemished champion.
Considering the type of year 2023 was...it kind of fits.
Fair points. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Another one on the list. Titans fired Vrabel. Big mistake in my book. Good coach who managed to keep this team without a legitimate starting QB relevant largely on the strength of good game plans. Another shining example of “why is the coach responsible for the GM giving him a crap team?”
I just found out today that Bill Belichick’s sons - TWO, not just one - also work for the Patriots and like their positions. So that comes into play there, too.
A mistake on the Titans' part I think. Vrabel got the most out of some limited talent at QB. Now Derrick Henry seems to be done and with a middling record they'll be too far down in the draft to get one of the hot QB prospects, so more years of mediocrity could be coming. But as Jerry Glanville used to say... NFL.... Not For Long (I think he said that after he traded Brett Favre to the Packers).
On the ESPN article the owner was all “we made some moves in the off season, we thought they were good moves, so it’s Vrabel’s fault”. Like what good moves? Drafted a bad QB? You didn’t get Derrick Henry any help. You still got mediocre receivers. It’s funny to me that for years, including this year, every analyst around the sport said the Titans were over performing their talent, but they blame the coach. Oh well, hopefully Vrabel lands somewhere good. Hmm, maybe Kraft should reconsider, Vrabel’s the only person from Belichick’s “tree” to actually be a good coach.
I think the Chargers position is the most interesting of the vacancies. As opposed to the Titans, the Chargers are an underperforming team, and a healthy Justin Herbert gives any coach a very good edge. The right head coach could really make a difference there.
Yeah Chargers is the best opening. They definitely have more talent than their record.
And now Pete Carroll..... Maybe a couple more after this weekend’s games.
Woh, Pete Carroll out. Still supposed to be an “adviser” whatever that means. Putting this one down as another mistake, at least with the current news that doesn’t delve into the “why”.
You were 50 seconds less long winded than me. This is another crazy one to me. Most interesting there’s now 2 “good” jobs available. Chargers and Seahawks both have good rosters and their next coaches should be successful if they don’t suck.
Bill is OUT. Holy Frijoles Batman! ESPN says he’s leaning to Atlanta. Personally I think he should go to Seattle, I mean he replaced Pete Carroll once and that worked out pretty well.
Dan Quinn will get one of those jobs for sure.
Wow, they were so young that almost looks like an SNL sketch.
Wow! I had not heard that yet. Shocking!
