"Free thought" is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma.

The value of ALL the gold in the world as of the end of 2021, @ $1,746/oz, was ~$12.5T. The value of the world's gold in official (government) hands was ~$2.1T.
The $5.731T figure is ONLY the US. I don't have a total for all the world's currencies. Suffice it to say we would need a LOT more gold to make this work.
Money is three things, and ONLY three things. 1) It is a medium of exchange, 2) It is a store of value, and 3) It is a means of accounting. The physical form of money is irrelevant. I say again, it is IRRELEVANT.
The fact that there is more money value than gold or other things to back it is because people have faith that they can use money for one of the three things listed above. Really bad things happen when people loose faith in the value of their nation's currency.

Without the US Navy involved, it is unlikely that the Royal Navy, on it's own, could have broken the U-boat strangle hold on the Atlantic. It was a close run thing as it was.
The moment he declared war on the US, he had lost the war. After that, it was only a matter of knowing how many people would die. The ending was written in stone.
Japan lost the moment the first bomb fell on Pearl Harbor. The same caveat applies.
The US ended WW2 with a Navy of ~6,800 ships. The only other navies worthy of being called navies were the British & French and they were our allies. The Bretton Woods agreement, enforced by the US Navy, gave us the world we know today. With the end of the war and BW, we ended Imperialism, and contained the expansionist Soviets. We have world wide freedom of navigation and effectively, open world markets. This was NOT how it was before WW2.
With the exception of a few spats, we have had the best 75 year run in world history. The average world citizen is happier, healthier, wealthier, and more free than ever before. WARNING: it won't continue indefinitely.

You’re correct that President Trump favours/favoured a return to the gold standard. This was reported in 2016 and criticized by economists around the world. President Trump announced on July 2, 2019, that he would nominate Judy Shelton to the Board of the Federal Reserve. She’s known for her advocacy for a return to the gold standard and for her criticisms of the Federal Reserve, which she compares to the Soviet Union’s economic planning. Her nomination stalled on November 17, 2020, with a 47–50 vote in the Senate, and was withdrawn completely by Biden 15 days after his inauguration.
If the US actually returned to the Gold Standard, each troy ounce of gold held by the US Treasury would be worth about $8640. This is based on the Treasury’s promise that it holds 261,498,926.23 troy ounces (286,890,472 avoirdupois ounces) of gold, and the 2022 report of the amount of US money in circulation - $2259.3 billion. Rand Paul’s motion to audit the gold failed, so nobody really knows how much gold the US holds. Many think it is MUCH less, which would only serve to increase the value of the actual gold held if it were to be used to back the dollar. Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty. He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be. I will be attending the the Federal Appeals Court Arguments on Presidential Immunity in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. Of course I was entitled, as President of the United States and Commander in Chief, to Immunity. I wasn’t campaigning, the Election was long over. I was looking for voter fraud, and finding it, which is my obligation to do, and otherwise running running our Country. If I don’t get Immunity, then Crooked Joe Biden doesn’t get Immunity, and with the Border Invasion and Afghanistan Surrender, alone, not to mention the Millions of dollars that went into his “pockets” with money from foreign countries, Joe would be ripe for Indictment. Almost all experts and legal analysts have stated, for all to see, that the Litigation before Judge Engoron is a sham and disgrace, a dark time in New York Judicial history. I did nothing wrong but, most importantly, as they state very strongly, I already won a vast majority of the case in the Appellate Division with their decision issued in June, a decision that Judge Engoron refuses to acknowledge or accept. He incorrectly, and perhaps fraudulently, valued Mar-a-Lago at $18,000,000, but his disrespect of the Appellate Division, and their opinion, is far worse. A.G. Letitia James is a Racist scoundrel who thinks she has total power and control over the Judge. She gave him the fraudulent numbers. Somehow it will all be corrected and fair. God Bless America!

Perhaps, but Pearl Harbor was bombed on Dec 7, 1941, 6 months after Hitler abandoned his planned invasion of Britain and began his invasion of Russia. If he had not attacked England after conquering France, and focused on invading Russia in the early spring of 1941, it is doubtful Rosevelt’s lend-lease would have passed in March, 1941, rendering the U.S. less threatening. It is also likely that Germany would have defeated Russia that year, before the U.S. declared war on Japan.
Alternately, if Germany had focused on Britain’s war industry and airfields until an invasion was practical, before considering an invasion of Russia, the U.S. would not have been a factor.
In both scenarios, Mussolini’s recklessness, and Hitler’s loyalty to him, would be a factor, but much more so in the way history actually played out.
