Some of my friends and I don’t trust them any more either, but one friend decided to stop taking his statins 4-5 months ago in favour of 500 mg of flush niacin twice a day. He got his biannual blood test results this week and his cholesterol is way up. I suggested that maybe he wasn’t taking enough niacin but he’s spooked now and is going back to the statins. I’ve seen his memory decline considerably in the past 5 years, and his legs used to be muscular and shapely, but now they’re thin and spindly.
Ugh.
For now, I am choosing to ignore. I just can’t deal with yet another thing to worry about. I’ll try to focus on the things I can change/influence/deal with.
Still, I hope you keep us informed on this topic.

Way too many variables, LittleLinda, to blame your friend’s higher cholesterol levels on not taking the statins.
I am presently thinking that our really bad eating choices are at fault. There is a war going on over what is a proper human diet, and one possibility is that your friend is eating too many carbs, seed oils, and sugars of all kinds.
Mention to him that he look up the videos by Dr. Ken Berry as a start, and maybe Dr. Westman from Duke University. There are many other well credentialed Doctors that suggest eliminating “modern processed foods” to prevent or reverse our chronic illnesses.
