I remember how when Monday Night Football's season would end like the first week in December and the next Monday Night broadcast was the Liberty Bowl, WITHOUT a sponsor's name on it, and it was exciting for the two schools to play on a Monday night.
We basically created the equivalent of participation trophies for college football teams with the β6-winβ threshold for qualifying. And those bowls are not terribly watchable, nor generate a lot of revenue and some will die off.
