It was not a safety because no part of the ball was in contact with the team in possession’s goal own line at the time the ball became legally dead.

That is not what happened. The ball carrier ran an additional 12 yards because of the IBW. The play was not essentially over. And had it been a PF (UNR) the penalty would have been 15 yards, which still would have left a first down.

The goal line is extended indefinitely beyond the side line for the purposes of a score as long as the player in possession remains legally in bounds

Actually clipping is a foul still. Clipping is an illegal block below the waist from behind. That rule changes around 15 years ago when the thought was a 15 yard fouls for a block above the waist was excessive. Agra ago, ineligible receiver down field was a five yard penalty AND loss of down. Thank God they got rid of that nasty little enforcement

Don’t understand Texas’ play-calling there at the end.

College OT is much better than the alternative of the team that wins the coin toss only has to get a field goal to win. Most new innovations to NCAA football have been bad but the new OT is fairer and more exciting.

The Sugar Bowl turned out to be a good game also.
Now we get the champions of the Big 10 vs. the champions of the Pac 12, which we should have had in the Rose Bowl before the powers that be “fixed” everything.

I normally pay little attention to the game, college or pro. But my alma mater Huskies are headed to national championship? Is that true?

    One opinion.
Another is that the current system manufactures artificial excitement.

I don't think it'd be unreasonable or unfair to make it a new rule that pass receivers must keep both feet in bounds for a caught pass to be considered complete.

If not, sudden death. The only problem with that is that it gives the advantage to the team that wins the coin toss.....

And how did Michigan get a first and 10 on that illegal block in the back penalty? It was a long yardage gain of 27 yards so the penalty brought the ball back 10 yards. Still a first down.....
