Increadable Game! Michigan wins a thriller in OT!
Just trash-talking , my Michigan friends. š
“Great game! Michigan looked good, and congrats to Jim Harbaugh.
Rose Bowl was rockinā.”
Wasn’t it two years ago that Georgia rocked Michigan in the Orange Bowl? Harbaugh must have studied the tape of that and other games for hours, and especially those of all of Alabama’s games. He then built his team, corrected errors, and strengthened the areas where they were weak.
I’m an SEC southern gal (Georgia Dawg supporter) but Michigan did an amazing job here. And, I’m always happy when Alabama gets beat. I think the referees let them get away with too many fouls and err on their side on any questionable call.
I agree with you. I still like football for college but those guys are semipros. Even without NIL and transfer portal...they are getting room and board and theoretically an education. At a big public or private school...that’s at least. 50-70k per year..I am slowly pulling away from the hype
.
I think olemiss will be in it next year
I think that play started the “ball flys over the goal markers” and it’s a td even if the player lands out of bounds.
That doesn’t work on pass plays-—gotta have at least one foot in bounds in the end zone while in possession of the ball. They oughta make the running scorer have at least one foot in bounds ,over the goal line, with the ball in their possession.
In a way I’m glad there are decent west coast teams joining the Big10, a few years back we had cake schools like Rutgers, Maryland join the Big10 (obviously for TV revenue) and cheapen the league. Again it is for TV revenue but the average is raised this time. To be sure college football is faster than decades ago but I do miss the smashmouth of the Bo and Woody days as many still call this match up the greatest rivalry in all of sports. You’re gonna get hooked being part of the fun, wait until your boys are at The Big House during a snowstorm...LOL.
Because the play had effectively ended when the illegal block (a stupid one too) took place so it was essentially a personal foul.
I remember a play where Michigan faked the punt and the UM RB who’s name escapes me - LeRoy Hoard? - ran for the first down but it was called back for a hold. It was not a scoring playing but would have kept the Michigan drive going and extended the game... And Schembechler was mighty pi**ed after the game... at the refs.
Hopefully, with those western teams joining the Big Ten, their home games won’t start at 10:00 PM, Eastern time.
Not going to have many UW fans traveling to Ann Arbor for away games or UM fans traveling to Seattle.
But it will be interesting to see how 2 PAC12 teams meld into the BIG10.
BTW, how many teams are in the BIG 10 now? I know it's more than 10.
I think only the ball has to be over the goal line to score a touchdown. I saw a play in today’s Rose Bowl in which the player held the ball over the goal line where it meets the field boundary, and it was ruled a touchdown.
The longtime Wolverines coach said at the Plymouth Right to Life dinner on July 17 that he believed in āhaving the courage to let the unborn be bornā and that he believed that the potential life of an unborn child should always receive priority when it comes to abortion.
On Saturday, he told ESPN how he and his wife Sarah are willing to back up their strong beliefs about abortion.
āAny player on our team, any female staff member or any staff member or anybody in our family or our extended family ⦠that doesnāt feel like after they have a baby they can take care of it, we got a big house. Weāll raise that baby.ā
It’s a playoff game, there had to be a winner.
That was a little confusing....
You might recall that USC and UCLA are also joining the Big 10. And I think this is stupid. USC will no longer play our traditional rivals Stanford, which we first played when Teddy Roosevelt was in the White House, and Cal, which we have played regularly since WWI. Except for UCLA, none of our Big 10 away games will be within easy driving distance, and the Maryland game will be on the other side of the continent.
Interestingly, an illegal block from behind used to be called clipping, but I haven’t heard that term used in years. Since the refs now announce the penalties over a mic, perhaps the terminology had to be dumbed down.
The traveling is the real pain.
IBW (illegal block in the back) is a spot foul on a running play. The loose balll portion was done when the receiver caught the ball and āmade a football moveā Thus, the spot of enforcement is the spot of the foul in this case the +40. 10 yard penalty left the ball at the 50. The line to gain was around the -41. After consider the legally gained distance net the 10 yard penalty, the ball was left in advance of the line to gain which by rule is a first down. Had the IBW occurred while the passer had the ball, or while the ball were in the air, the spot of enforcement would have been the previous spot, and the foul would have been OPI assuming the pass crossed the line of scrimmage with a 15 yard penalty. (was not a screen pass). Were it a screen pass, the call would have been IBW but still enforced from the previous spot at the loose ball play is defined as all runs prior to the loose ball.
Simple.
Except the rule book does not permit a game governed by NCAA rules for football to end in a tie.
