One person was killed and another four were injured in an early morning New Year’s Day shooting near a Los Angeles County shopping mall, police said.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said the shooting took place about 30 minutes after midnight Monday in the city of Hawthorne. Officers responding to reports of gunshots found one male victim suffering from gunshots at the scene and transported him to a local hospital.

Post this in breaking news.
Make sure it gets on the sidebar.
The racial makeup of Hawthorne was
27,678 (32.8%) White
(10.3% Non-Hispanic White)
,23,385 (27.7%) African American
565 (0.7%) Native American
974 (1.2%) Pacific Islander
22,127 (26.3%) from other races
3,922 (4.7%) from two or more races
There were 44,572 people of Hispanic or Latino origin, of any race (52.9%)
Few felons are arrested in LA these days and ever fewer are tried and convicted.
Hawthorne is a must to avoid area, but back in the 1950s through early 70’s, it was the American dream bedroom community. It’s where The Beach Boys grew up. Now it’s basically turning into Inglewood as Inglewood keeps spreading East and south. I think the southern part of Hawthorn is safer, but still kind of boring.
When they put in the 105 Freeway right through the town, it was basically curtains for the city of Hawthorn. They even tore down The Beach Boys old family house to put in an off-ramp.
With all of that said, if shopping, it’s best to just stick to the beach communities south of LAX.
Nationwide, only 1/2 of murders are ever solved.
We can thank the woke DAs and their sugar daddy Gyorgy Schwartz for that.
just another day in CA
Plane must have arrived from Chicago at LAX.

Thanks for posting this . You beat me to it . I’ve seen pics of Hawthorne in the 50’s thanks to booklet inc. in Beach Boys’ CD box set and it looked idyllic , much like my hometown in CT in the 50’s/60’s that also has turned into a dump and overrun by hispanics and illegals . Crime and drugs rampant . Sad .
I lived near Hawthorne from 1948 to 1964. My folks had an apartment near Hawthorne Blvd. The area was all single family homes dotted with apartment bldg. They sold it in 1972. In 1982 I drove there with my wife to show her the old neighborhood. There were no more homes. All apartment buildings. A total overcrowded mess. We did have lunch at the restaurant they filmed Pulp Fiction in. It was still a mostly white and Asian neighborhood then. I’d rather not see it as it is now. Of course back then Inglewood wasn’t too bad yet either.
We moved to Utah a year later and made a new start. I never want to even see that shyt hole again.
I’m glad that you experienced the good life when Los Angeles was a California Dreamscape. You wouldn’t recognize Hawthorn Boulevard. They put the 105 freeway up in 1984. For many years, as long as you lived west of the Harbor Freeway(110), you were safe. Now you need to be west of the 405 for better life expectancy.
Crenshaw Boulevard, where the murders occurred, is in what is now called the Crenshaw District of northeast Hawthorn which is now touted as the hub of LA’s African American community.
South Hawthorn where it blends into Lawndale is more residential, with far fewer strip malls and is mostly Asian, Latino, and White, and enjoys a safer quality of living..
This is about 1.5 mi south of SpaceX
Very close to where I work.
