George Harrison’s hypocritical stance on religion
Far Out ^ | 11/7/21 | Sam Kemp

Harrison’s idea that people are born innocent and are gradually made impure by society sounds a lot like the distinctly Christian concept of sin to me. But, for Harrison, it was not the devil drawing people into temptation, but mass culture – a culture he was an essential part of. It is these contradictions that make Harrison such an interesting and complex character, and which perhaps explain the consistent reappraisal of his own spirituality. It was as though he was always looking for something, searching for some sense of meaning in an increasingly materialistic and unfeeling world.

“ If all souls are pure when born, why are they not equal? But we know from experience that souls are not equsl in many ways.

That’s a legitimate question.”

Anyone who believes that people are born good has never watched 2-year-olds interact.

FTA: “Harrison’s idea that people are born innocent and are gradually made impure by society sounds a lot like the distinctly Christian concept of sin to me.”

I thought Christianity held that people were NOT born innocent, but were born with Original Sin, which was what baptism was all about.

“He withdrew into his so called spirituality while married to Pattie Boyd, leaving her basically alone in the marriage but at the same time had affairs.”

And Eric Clapton moved right in to fill the void.

The article doesn’t understand Christianity if he ignores that we are born in depravity and sin, not “innocent.” “Surely I was sinful from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” (Psalm 51:5)

He was an ordinary man thrust into massive celebrity. I’m inclined to give him a pass, though God will judge.

Wise words. In fact, all four Beatles were born into mostly scruffy, working class environments. Paul and George might at best be described as "upper working class" with Ringo and John definitely not far above the poverty line. But all four did not come from any kind of wealth or high education.

I thought they all handled their massive success relatively well. But no need to attribute any special recognition to their intellectual abilities. They were just ordinary guys.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Sure they are. They are self centered and manipulative and will remain so unless taught otherwise.

Yes it’s why one has to be strong lead your way with logic not greed.

That whole album is pretty much about Patti Boyd. Eric was “smitten.”

Except it is not.

We are born innocent but we have the sin nature in us from the beginning. We just are incapable of doing anything with it. Society does not corrupt us, we corrupt society.

people are born innocent and are gradually made impure

That is most definitely NOT a Christian concept. It is straight from the pit and smells like smoke.

The Bible teaches that men are born with a sin nature and we are sinners from birth. Frankly, there is nothing more selfish than a baby always caterwauling if their needs or wants aren't gratified immediately.

This is why we need a Redeemer. God provided that sacrifice in the person and work of Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.
