New York City's effort in the 1990s to regulate toilets and shower heads to cut down water usage ignited consumer outrage, even inspiring a 1996 Seinfeld television episode in which the character Kramer was so fed up with his apartment's low-flow shower head that he purchased a high-flow head on the black market.
Three decades later, the Biden administration is leaving few appliances in the home untouched in its quest to regulate the amount of water and energy Americans use for their household chores.
The list of impacted appliances includes gas stoves, dishwashers, air conditioners, refrigerators, light bulbs, washing machines, microwaves, and furnaces, just to name a few. And the push back is growing, raising concerns that consumers will lose choices and pay more for future appliances, especially seniors on fixed incomes and low-income families.
"It started with gas stoves, and now it's virtually everything about our house. And that wakes up a lot of people," said Tim Stewart, the president of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association. He is planning to ride wave of discontent to launch a "Hands off my Home" grassroots effort next year to fight the energy-efficiency crackdown on appliances,
Here's a look at some of the targets of the Biden administration's regulatory offensive:
Shower heads
Shower head regulations of the 1990s became a federal issue. In May 2010, the Obama administration’s Department of Energy (DOE) issued rules that expanded the definition of what constitutes a shower head to include the entire plumbing systems. That meant it wasn’t just the shower head that was limited to 2.5 gallons per minute, it was the whole system.
In August 2020, the Trump administration’s DOE revised the definition again, and the Biden administration’s DOE in July 2021 reinstated the Obama-era definition.

Hands off my coffee maker.
In the case of things like water heaters and furnaces, they’re going to do stuff that creates a need for more space than the existing equipment occupies, making replacement enormously difficult and expensive in many cases. Count on it.
Other than that maybe there could be improvements in other areas, but at what cost vs benefit?
Limiting the plumbing to 2.5 gallons per minute is insane.
Joe Burden is a sadist. He likes to torture Americans.
The NHTSHA, Dept of Energy, Consumer Product Safety Commission, EPA - all soviet-style central planning offices, nothing more.
And Congress continues to vote them money and power to regulate every aspect of American life
They won’t be satisfied until we’re all living in mud huts and eating root vegetables......well, conservatives anyway
The government-controlled TP dispenser can’t be far off.
They exist for themselves. Every 20-25 years they “need” a major expansion to accommodate the growing burocratic underlings in those agencies expecting and needing their next promotions.
There is no evidence that DemonicRats want to control every facet of your life; or that Biden is corrupt.
Bkmk
My washing machine is the biggest PITA. It’s programmed for safety and to save water, energy, etc. but it takes for freakin’ ever.
This Bidenskyyyyyyy CRACK UP is really going to put the little poor families in a jam. They will not be able to “progress” into the 21st century under Xiden’s Build Back Poorer Butthead agenda.
Obama is behind a lot of this I suspect.
He loved to torture Americans.
Zika and ebola never reached American shores until that demon....and now look at what diseases are showing up.
Remember when Obama baited the SCOTUS into coming to the SOTU and he publicly berated and embarrassed them?.....pure evil.
Also shutting down the WWII memorial in 2013.....there was a snow reason to do that other than EFFING with Americans.
I figure obama is behind 90% of what’s going on in this country.
Refrigerators should have much thicker and/or better insulation, and...

It’s ridiculous.
Less efficient appliances mean they are used more often and use MORE energy.
Water saver anything doesn’t save water when you have to flush twice or shower longer, or do more, smaller loads. Besides, some areas of the country have no water supply issues and don’t NEED water saving devices. The market can decide that. Those in areas prone to water issues can have the option if they want. Otherwise, it’s just virtue signalling.
Does it even get your clothes clean? My friend has one, and she says the clothes start to smell right away. She said that never happened with her old machine.
I think the public should have to use the same shower heads the Navy/Coast Guard use. Tiny lil shower head with a spring loaded button that gives you about 4 seconds of water before you have to reach up and hit the button again for another 40 or 50 drops of water. Sea showers are great. You civilians got it easy.
