Newly-released bodycam footage shows the moment an LA Sheriff's Deputy shot a mother who had called 911 after her ex-boyfriend allegedly attacked her and her daughter.
Niani Finlayson, 27, called police and 'reported that her boyfriend would not leave her alone' and then screaming and sounds of a struggle could be heard', the LA Sheriff's Department (LASD) said.
Footage shows deputies swiftly approaching the apartment complex and soon saw Finlayson holding an eight-inch kitchen knife at the door.
She reportedly told the officers that she was going to stab her ex-boyfriend for allegedly hurting her nine-year-old daughter, Xaisha.
Xaisha was seen standing next to her and appeared to tell deputies that her mother's ex-boyfriend had hurt her.
While entering the apartment, Deputy Ty Shelton is seen asking the officer in front of him for her taser, which she quickly hands over.
The female officer and Shelton enter the apartment together and see Xaisha standing near the kitchen while Finlayson is standing next to her ex-boyfriend, with one hand on him and the other holding the knife.
At that moment, Shelton shoots four times while holding the taser in another hand, and Finlayson immediately falls to the floor.
Once her mother is shot, Xaisha runs to the kitchen while the ex-boyfriend yells 'No, no, why did you shoot?'.
Shelton is heard responding: 'Drop it'. It is unknown what he was referencing.

Fact. Every civilian is first and foremost without hesitance a guilty lethal threat. All interactions are not an escalation towards lethal force. All interactions are a “deescalation” from lethal force as the primary protocol.
“It’s a dangerous job. Cops get killed if they are not aggressive enough.”
Much more important that a civilian is killed even without justification, because they are expendable as a subhuman lower class anyhow.
Cop murdered her.
He’ll be back on shift in a couple of days...no charges.
Agreed, pretty sure the officer won’t have a hard time justifying his actions.

Except... They are becoming the majority, and they are very rarely ever held accountable for their very deadly incompetence.
They have an unquestioned license to execute at their personal discretion.
L.A. better hope Ty Shelton is short for Tyrone.

Moral: If you don’t intend to let cops take control of a situation then don’t call them.

Your "21 foot rule" does not apply in this situation.
There were two officers in the room, guns drawn, both facing the woman, one officer obviously with his finger on the trigger and pointed directly at the woman. The female officer had entered the room first, had a couple more seconds to evaluate the situation...and DID NOT FIRE HER DRAWN WEAPON.
He murdered the woman. Of course, the Blue Line will protect the murderer. He'll probably even get a commendation for saving the woman/child beater.

Absolutely. But then should the police just go ahead and shoot anyone holding a knife?
Demanding technical proficiency from those with a badge and gun is not hate.

Maybe so. But one thing for sure. While they are waiving and saying hi in the back of their minds you are still an immediate threat and they are at the ready and figuring on how long it will take them to draw and fire on you. It is built in and there is no way to prevent it.
