What Georgia did last year has nothing to do with this year, and this year, the year that counts, Georgia was beaten by Alabama.

Oklahoma’s loss in their bowl game has no impact on Texas being selected for the four team playoff.

Nah. NFL doesn’t want their prized potential draftees to get injured in meaningless games. They do the same for their own stars.

““And who’s to say one or more of ‘Bama’s important position players don’t go down on their opening play? “

And you are absolutely correct. So basing the decision on who is going to compete for the big one with sellability for their sponsors is a falacy. And, so, the whole thing about a national champion with all the variables there are, and I didn’t go into near all of them, is a con for the money and not for the sport. There is no way to determine who’s got the best team as anyone on any given day can win. And South Dakota State, Florida State, Liberty, Michigan, and Washington were all undefeated this year. They all have just as much chance as any team in the nation so there could be 25 healthy teams out there with the possibility. But they don’t stand a chance as they won’t be selected by a committee that bases their determination on glamor of certain players and the ability to sell sponsor’s’ products. Is that a champion’s tournament or a commercial for Dr. Pepper played in NRG Stadium in Houston Texas and recieveing money from Disney (ESPN) for both television and radio?

A list of the 21 sponsors for the BCS is here:

They’re the real winners. And the players and fans are the sheep paying the bills.

“...they still would have played without the 22 starters...”

That possibility is there. But they would have had a reason for those starters to play and they might have.

There will come a time when opting players for reasons like this in the NCAA may act like their pro counterparts that do not want to get hurt in a bowl game and kill their chances at big bucks in the NFL. Being part of a team that wins a BCS is not a big single player resume talent entry they haven’t already displayed. The rest is earned at the combine and which agent can get them the best deal. It’s all about the buck.

Alabama should beat Michigan and Texas, if Washington does not exploit the Horn’s secondary, should be Washington.

If it comes down to Texas and Alabama, Alabama will get their payback against the Longhorns and win it all.

Texas v. Michigan would be the best game and could go either way.

The Transfer portal is a key reason that Bowl games aren’t the same quality as before. And many top players sit out so they don’t get injured. Those teams with quality depth can show off younger talent. Georgia has quality depth up and down their roster.

fsu’s best win was LSU. Bama beat them and Ole Miss (who beat LSU) and they beat UGA which was a much better win than anything fsu had.

“fsu’s best win...”

You may have overlooked the entire reason for my problem. It has nothing to do with winning even though it should. If winning was the sole reason for being recognized, then there are a lot of teams that should be considered for that top 4 possibility. I gave you the win stats to display FSU has beaten everyone they have faced. They figured out a way to win no matter who it was. But that’s not what this is all about.

It has to do with how well a team can sell it’s worth for the sponsors and the television audiences. And worthy is not being considered, only appearances and press releases. So is it a game, or a business. The product is not success, it’s a shadow of obscurity to lie to the fans and players. They don’t cae about the records, only about how much viewership they can get and how much they can make from jersey sales on the web. And that’s not sports.

I just don’t think fsu’s schedule was very good. It was rated far far lower than Texas or Alabama. I don’t think its some grand conspiracy about who can sell more commercials for sponsors. The Committee just did not think fsu one of the 4 best teams - especially not after their Offense was crippled by losing their QB.

“I don’t think its some grand conspiracy...”

It isn’t. It’s something that has been done many years and has lowered the expectancy of the contest which came from recreational sports and helped turn it into a business.

We can only go by what we see or are told. When major news sources concerning sports come out publically and say the committee is doing it for business rather than the sport it is very telling. So many are trying to point out schedule. But to me, if they can beat everyone in front of them, they have earned the shot.

As for schedule, besides LSU, they also beat Clemson and Louisville. But that has nothing to do with the selection as it is just numbers the game varies.

I played for a small junior college in the early 70’s when I got back from Nam. We went into the last game, the California Championship, against a team from LA, the southern champions, and they were rated #1 in the state. We were rated #2 and from the northern part of the state. They were a better team than we were on paper. We played them in Bakersfield and we, besides beating them, beat hell out of them to the point where their running backs didn’t want the ball on play checks. We went in #2, and we came out according to the AP, #2. So how good are rating committees? Only as good as they can sell their product.
