A very basic primer oriented to people unfamiliar with the AR15 or guns in general.

Hopefully SCOTUS will recognize that while the AR-15 looks a lot like the M-16 they have very little in common functionally. One is a basic semi automatic rifle that's functionally identical to hundreds of other semi automatic rifles and the other is,in fact,a weapon of war capable of full automatic firing.
The left's demands regarding the AR-15 boil down to "big scary gun".

I used my Covid check to buy a backup AR-15 and 2000 rounds. Thanks Donald Trump! Sorry gen Z.

I've never thought of my AR as a sporting rifle. Especially not the pink ones.

My AK-47 feels rejected. Last century wooden stock and oversized 7.62 round is to heavy of ammo for the beta boys to carry around, you know, with the weight of a steel weapon and all. Thats ok tho, she knows I still love her and thats all that matters!

The local gun shop sells them as fast as it gets them, according to the owner.

AK and AR get along well together in a gun cabinet. Or so I’ve heard.

My ‘stimulus’ check was spent in a similar fashion. It is best that expendable supplies won out over one of the new Colt snake guns. Besides it is already in the budget for 3rd qtr 2024.

Not long ago I engaged a woman in conversation in Cambridge (Massachusetts). She looked to be about 60 and her car had all the usual Maoist bumper stickers. We got to talking about "assault rifles" and she said that she wanted them banned but admitted she knew nothing about firearms.
I told her that I served in the Army during the Vietnam era and that I was at least somewhat familiar with the M-16 and the AR-15. I told her that the AR-15 would never be suited for the military while the M-16 most certainly was suited for that purpose.
I don't think I convinced her. My guess is that she clings to her "big scary gun" thinking.

[[The Seventh Circuit has recently ruled AR-15 pattern rifles are not protected by the Second Amendment. ]]
Bull! There are no exemptions to the “arms” the second amendment speaks of!

Magazine capacity is far more important than auto vs semi. How many rounds can I fire before I have to reload?

Actually, I think you might be mistaken.
From what I have seen, the AR-15 and M-16 I believe have a great deal in common, structurally and functionally.
The difference is how the “lower” is machined or drilled out. (the “lower” is what the Feds regard as “the gun”) and as such, it is the one that is stamped with identifiers.
Usually.
From what I understand, it is technically quite easy to change an AR-15 semiautomatic to a full automatic if you are willing to break the law and have the resources to make or buy the small part(s) needed to accomplish the conversion.
I am sure there are those who know more about this kind of thing than I do.
I have often wondered if their whole obsession with the AR-15 has as much to do with that fact (that they could be converted) as the emotionally scary (to them) black color of the firearm.

I got my dad’s old M-1 Carbine (that somehow got “stuck” in his duffel bag coming back from Vietnam). Made by Winchester. Checked the serial number- it was made some time before September, 1942. Still has the old sights on it (doesn’t amount to windage). Still take it out to the range.
