Eggnog Is A Christmas Miracle, And Your Hatred For It Won't Stop Me From Loving It

Some people were born to take on noble causes, whether they be fighting societal injustices or righting terrible wrongs or whatever. Mine, today at least, is defending eggnog, the long-maligned holiday drink you all like to shit on come every

December 1. And because I have to get back to my other noble causes (I also need to tackle foods that help people lose weight, should they so choose, and something else today that I can't quite remember), we're going to make this quick: Eggnog is great, and anyone who says otherwise is a Grinch-y killjoy who doesn't deserve dairy.

Nutmeg is good. I just think the booze takes away from the eggnog. I’d have the booze alone...but I’m not much of a spirit drinker.

Hard to find eggnog at the supermarket that doesn’t use high fructose corn syrup.

I made my own one year, and it was very good. But I never see pasteurized eggs in the store anymore. I was never worried when I was much younger, but when food is produced on such a huge scale as now, I worry that there is more room for things to go wrong.

(I know you can pasteurize your own eggs, but haven’t yet settled down to learn it.)

Agree, it’s the best. Publix started carrying it this year.

If booze in the nog is good enough for Santa Claus it’s good enough for me.

Good stuff. No booze included.

Sadly, full of HFCS, as is most off the shelf eggnog.

I looked up the recipe for good old-fashioned colonial-style eggnog but it looked too labor intensive so I lost interest. Maybe one of these days...

While I'm ranting, WTF is "pumpkin spice" eggnog? An abomination, I'll tell you!

Anyways, the SoCo eggnog is pretty good, but it's far better with SoCo added.

Alcohol eggnog puts daddy in just the right mood on Christmas morning and gets his head right after "Santa" spent all night wrapping presents on Christmas Eve only to have the kids pound on my bedroom door at 6:00 am.

I saw that at my grocery, but didn’t order it because I thought it had booze or booze flavor. Does it have any boozy flavor extract?

Eggnog, George Washington’s, from a recipe written in his handwriting.

Blend

1 Pint Brandy
1/2 Pint Rye Whiskey
1/4 Pint Rum
1/4 Pint Sherry

1-1/2 Cups Sugar
1 Quart Cream
1 Quart Milk
12 Eggs

I like eggnog. On the day I was taking the SAT exam, there was a morning and afternoon test session with a lunch break. Lunch was a quart of eggnog.

My love for eggnog did have a poor outcome when my parents hosted a party for Navy officers and friends at our home. The bowl of eggnog was "spiked". I consumed a couple cups. A mix of inebriation and nausea ensued. Today, I only drink eggnog that I have poured from a freshly opened quart. The LactAid lactose free is my preferred version now.

Maybe I’m getting old, but it seems that every year the eggnog sold tastes sweeter.

You people are philistines. Only Brandy goes in eggnog.

I drink lactose free eggnog. Can’t drink the regular stuff.
What really chaps me is it’s so EXPENSIVE. I should just make my own, but lactose free milk is so expensive anyway.

I bought whole nutmegs in a jar, and grate my own. Much better than the commercially ground product.

It’s a good thing it’s a seasonal thing- man that stuff packs the calories!

Whiting's egg nog was the best under Heaven. Recipe went with the dairy it seems. Thank God for taste buds.
