In the depths of World War II, as war engulfed Europe, the International Red Cross (IRC) came to the aid of millions of prisoners held by Germany. The Red Cross helped millions of Allied soldiers languishing in German POW camps - but pointedly refused to press Nazi Germany on access to the concentration camps where millions of Jews were imprisoned and murdered. Today, the Red Cross - officially named “The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement” - is in danger of repeating its mistakes of World War II, as it fails to press for aid to Israeli hostages in Gaza, allows Hamas to shelter in its ambulances and hospitals, and wastes its moral authority by issuing one-sided condemnations that hold Israel to a higher standard than Hamas’ army.
Red Cross’ Mission and Makeup
The mission of the Red Cross is “to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield…to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found.” It declares itself impartial, neutral, universal and independent.
The organization was founded as a committee of various affiliated medical organizations in Paris in 1919, and has included Christian (Red Cross) and Islamic (Red Crescent) medical organizations for over a century. (The group grew out of the American-founded Red Cross, which dated to 1881.) For over 60 years following Israel’s founding, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement forbade Israel’s Magen David Adom (Red Magen David) organization from formally joining the group. Their opposition was so forceful that in 2001, the director of the American Red Cross, Dr. Bernadine Healy, was forced out of her position after she championed Israel’s membership. “I’d say the Red Cross isn’t a healthy culture,” she said at the time. Magen David Adom finally was allowed to join in 2006, so long as the Palestine Red Crescent Society joined as well as a counterweight.
Palestine Red Crescent Society
Many casual observers around the world assume that the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is based in Geneva, Switzerland, is somehow apolitical and staffed by foreign, neutral professionals. In fact, it relies on local affiliated organizations to provide service on the ground in conflict zones. In some of the Middle East, that means the de facto Red Cross presence is the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
They show up at disasters and sell relief supplies.
Lie
The Red Cross doesn’t sell relief supplies
We get a lot of this smear stuff these days here
I’ve personally seen them help immensely
As to how anyone reacted to Nazi camps
I don’t think anyone is innocent including some zionists already in the Brit mandate realm who didn’t want the ashkhenazim influx post holocaust
That could discussed forever I guess
I don’t think most people believed it was as bad as it was till liberation
I’m hesitant to just condemn the Red Cross cause of blogger ire
I knew the Red Cross was a scam when they ripped me off in the US Army.
They take local donations, funnel them to Chicago, pay outrageous salaries, then send money to Leftist causes.
Have nothing to do with them.
is in danger of repeating its mistakes of World War II
==
They aren’t mistakes.
They demanded payment for sandwiches from LE working overtime during Hurricane Alicia in ‘83. They’ve been shysters for decades.
You lie.
Years ago, I answered the Red Cross request for donations for a little girl's surgery. Then I found out that the hospital would have done the surgery regardless. So what did the Red Cross do with the numerous donations collected for this little girl's surgery? Who knows.
No more Red Cross donations. And I've read other stuff about them.
They are only there for photo ops.
It took millions of mostly Christian allied soldiers' lives to defeat Germany and end the holocaust. It seems that some researches lose sight of the fact that the Vatican and Red Cross do not have a military, unless you consider the Swiss Guard a great military power.
No amount of Vatican or Red Cross intervention would have stopped Hitler from executing his final solution - IMHO. Would more intense Vatican or Red Cross diplomacy have thwarted or slowed the Final Solution? This can be debated but again, when an organization without military power is surrounded by ravenous murderers, (Vatican-Rome) (Red Cross- Bern) it's capacity to influence those monsters becomes limited.
The red cross has always been antisemitic, long before World War II.
You are right. They have helped in disasters immensely. However, they have always been antisemitic, as most international organizations are. They are not special in that regards, as antisemitism has plagued us since the Jews left Egypt.
Didn’t the Red Cross buy into the Thereisienstadt farce that the Nazis showed them?
I donated 3 gallons (0+) blood to the Red Cross, then discovered how slimy that organization is - never again!
When I was in Marine Corps boot camp our drill instructors railed against the Red Cross and told us what a bunch of blood suckers they were. I was quite surprised, so I asked my mentor when I went home on leave. He was a WW2 vet with 50 combat missions over Europe and he confirmed what our drill instructors told us. They never got a dime from me since then. I've also heard plenty of other negative stories about them over the years.
Red Cross has some mighty inconvenient numbers for the holocaust that was only first brought up in 1947.
You, sir, are a very smart man.
There is Red Cross and then there is ICRC.
The Red Cross organisations in their home countries can be extremely political and even downright cruel (I could tell some bone-chilling stories from my own experience in foreign lands). Then again, there are some countries where Red Cross is decent enough.
Sadly, in the US nowaday, other charities, especially Christian charities, do a much better job.
On the international stage, these days, ICRC (based out of Geneva) is professionally staffed with experienced dedicated humanitarians. Red Cross continues to to be problematic.
