The Las Vegas teenagers accused of beating 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis to death in an alley near their high school claimed self-defense, saying the boy threw the first punch at a court hearing Thursday.
Four of the nine teens charged with Lewis’ murder appeared before Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Nadia Woods but did not receive bail as expected, with Woods instead saying she’d issue a written order on bond for each defendant next week, local CBS affiliate station KLAS reported.
The four teens — Damien Hernandez, 17; Gianni Robinson, 17; Dontral Beaver, 16; and Treavion Randolph, 16 — appeared in handcuffs and are being tried as adults for second-degree murder after they allegedly beat and stomped on Lewis’ head on Nov. 1 outside Rancho High School.
Lewis died of his injuries a week later.
Their defense attorneys argued that the teens should not all receive the blanket $250,000 bond per defendant that the state had requested because some were more involved in the beating of Lewis than others and the dollar figure should reflect that, according to the local station.

Well, then they face the REAL Judge, there will be no excuse.
And they’ll wish jail time was all they had to look forward to.
It only takes 1 moron on the jury to believe it.
Yep. And stomping on a person's head as they lay unconscious on the pavement is the epitome of self defense.
Lets hope that there is enough sense on the Jury to see through the self defense argument. (Lets hope its not an OJ Jury.)
I think the lawyers are counting on black supremacy to save their murderous clients. If there is a single white hating bigot on the jury he will latch on to this excuse and not let go.

I still remember my high school days when a bully and his gang would prod some poor kid into throwing the first punch. Then came the beat down “in self defense”.
Remember when OJ was acquitted?
Afterwards one of the Jurors said she didn’t even know what DNA was and admitted she had only read the newspaper track betting schedules in her life?

That’s all they got. There really isn’t a defense for what they did.

I remember it well. quite a few times.

Here are some examples.
In the 6th grade we had a boy who failed and should have been in the 8th grade. When the teacher left the room he would pummel the other students who would not tell as they knew he would really beat him later.
8th grade some bigger kids did the same when the teacher was out of the room.
10th grade Same. Bigger kids would pummel smaller kids when the teacher was not in the area.
Best near fight I saw was when a Hispanic student and an Anglo boy squared off. He would not take his eyes off the Hispanic as he knew he would get a sucker punch. Behind him was another Hispanic with a pocket knife ready to stab if the fight began. It all blew over.
And I have seen many more. Always a bigger kid trying to get a smaller one to swing so the bigger one could beat the hell out of the smaller.
Years later I was at a dinner with people, one who had been a gym teacher. He said he just let the students fight it out as this established a “pecking order” in the schools. No mention of the kids beat for no purpose.
