George Washington’s design of the White House was to make it appear to be an upper middle-class house. Its ground floor and its third floor, for example, are hidden from view, giving the impression it’s a two-story building. Over the years, the building has been added to, but not in ways obvious to on-lookers. The building is not supposed to be a palace. The president, while the chief executive, is not a king.
The transformation of much of the house into a Disney set is not something ordinary people can do with their homes during the holiday season. While we can decorate a Christmas tree, put a wreath on the door and string lights, we do not have dozens of people working for us who can re-do our homes. But, in the Democrat view, the masses of people can live their lives through the elite.
