“They just make this stuff up.”

Of course they do.

“Russia has incredible casualties as well.”

It does.

But these guys are tossing around hyperbolic numbers, and when challenged to support their claims they cry FOUL!

It’s like trying to debate a four-year old.

The major difference between this one and WWI is the use of drones.

“Ukraine’s problem goes beyond war casualties. The country’s population has declined from almost 52 million in 1990 to less than 37 million today.”

You mean, when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union and there were a hell of a lot of Russians as well as Soviet troops there?

And, does the 37 million number you cite INCLUDE Crimea, and the other illegally annexed territories claimed by Russia?

It seems like the biggest difference would be that WWI was a World War and Ukraine and Russia fighting, isn’t.

thus, the war will continue, “by other means.” In which case, I’d not want to be a Russian coming out of a bar, alone;

lol

“Two years ago the MSM said that the Russian military would freeze in their tanks. Not realizing that it gets cold in Russia.”

I thought it rather odd and lacking in historical context that Russia would start a campaign during the early spring of 2020. Europe has a history of campaigning in early spring weather which is exacerbated by soil conditions compounded the weight of heavy equipment now in use by armies in the field.

True to historical example, equipment was bogged down in the mud.

True. This is more like a Slavic Civil War.

It is more like what it is, Russia invading another country to absorb its wealth and population.

Not working out very well for Russia so far. Putin thought he was invading Ukraine in 2014. Credit to the Ukrainians. They’ve came a long way in 8 years since Putin seized Crimea.

The 37 million is based on U.N. statistics, and the U.N. includes the post-2014 Russian-occupied areas as part of Ukraine’s population. The biggest drop occurred in the 1990s, at any rate.

Ukraine has a serious decades-long problem with out-migration and a chronically low birthdate.

We don’t know what Ukraine casualties are. They are a State secret.

People make estimates based on POWs, based on artificial limbs, based on satellite analysis of new graveyards....

What we do know is that 80 percent of casualties in this war have come from artillery.

And Russia has a massive advantage. And is growing as they expand production, while the West dithers and fails.

The Worldometer figures – which seems to track the UN’s statistics – shows the 2023 population of Ukraine at just under 37,000,000; and its 2022 population at just under 40,000,000. So, it shows a decrease of just under 3 million.

By contrast, Russia’s 2023 population is $144,500,000; and its 2022 population was some 144,800,000. So, a decrease of some 300,000.

Russia’s population is almost four times larger than Ukraine’s.

“We don’t know what Ukraine casualties are. They are a State secret.”

The claim was 500,000 KIA; not 500,000 total casualties. I am challenging the 500,000 KIA claim.

The only long way Ukrainians have come is a long hard slough through the meat grinder and into the graves.

That coup where Victoria Nuland and the Obama admin ousted the duly elected president of Ukraine was a huge mistake and it led to the self inflicted downfall of Ukraine.

All of that was to set up this proxy war. The proof is video of US politicians (McCain and Graham are examples) over in Ukraine incentivizing Ukrainians to war with Russia. They weren’t doing that for Ukraine. They were wanting to use Ukrainians to die in their proxy war with Russia.

It was a shameful thing to do.

Hm I agree with your comments on casualties. However, from everything I’ve seen Russia has suffered enormous casualties from artillery and drones. Ukraine has tried to adapt its strategies to lower casualties, by making small unit attacks.
Not saying they haven’t suffered major casualties, including from artillery. But so have the Russians. And the Russians continue to launch attacks across open fields.
