Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A diamond ring worth more than $800,000 went missing from its owner's hotel room at the Ritz in Paris and was later discovered in the bag of a vacuum cleaner.
A Malaysian businesswoman reported to Paris police that her ring had vanished from the table in her room at the hotel while she was out shopping, and she suspected it had been taken by a hotel employee.
Ritz employees launched a search for the missing item, and security guards ended up finding it in the bag of a vacuum cleaner used by cleaning staff, hotel officials said.
The ring was turned over to police for safekeeping until the woman, who left for London on Saturday, can return to collect it.
The Ritz is one of the world's best-known luxury hotels, with stays ranging from $2,150 to $50,000 per night.
Doesn’t sound fishy at all...
Great minds think alike.
You can’t travel with more than $10,000 in cash, but you can wear an $800,000 diamond ring.
50,000 per night?????
Double Occupancy....................
“You canβt travel with more than $10,000 in cash,”
You can travel with more than $10k in cash.
A clue, so?.................
I agree it is stupid to leave 800k sitting on a table in a hotel when you go out, but there are a lot of stupid rich people.
the fact that it was found in a vacuum cleaner bag tends to support the theory that it was owner error and they knocked it off the table onto the floor where it was sucked up by the innocent vacuum cleaner.
Ok I’m back....temporarily probably.
About this story........WHO THE HELL LEAVES A $800k RING IN A HOTEL ROOM UNATTENDED FOR EVEN 5 SECONDS??!!
Maybe YOU can, but I sure as heck can’t!............... π
YAAAYAYAYAY! We missed you!......................
That is a priceless Ming Vase....
Not Anymore
How to travel with more than $10,000 in cash:
1. First, get $10,000 cash..................
Avoiding the idiots on this forum is gonna be harder than I thought π
A Malaysian ‘businesswoman’.....I wonder what kind of ‘business’?...............
It does sound a little steep, but it does include free soap.
Mrs. fidelis and I got to stay at the Ritz Carlton at Dana Point (California) for free when her employer was giving a presentation in one of their ballrooms. I still have the monogrammed towels and bathrobe to prove it. π
I don’t know about vacuuming up a ring, but if you vacuum up a paper clip or a small screw, it usually makes a huge racket and spits it off to the side, anyway. I’m thinking someone PLACED the ring in the vacuum bag to retrieve it later. It may also depend upon the condition of the ring. Gold is soft; I would imagine it would take a beating when going through the beater bars, if it was accidentally sucked up.
