Yay!
I read about that when I was a kid. Other than Bob Smizik and other sportswriters bitching about Clemente, my first baseball memory was the 1967 World Series.
listened to the perfect game in the ws in the 50s We got aTV after that. Many games were on in the afternoon and one of our teachers set up a TV with a wire clothes hanger for an antenna.
Clemente, Koufax, Mays Mantle, Aaron and Drysdale and a few others were probably worth more than they got.
You realize that both Mookie Betts and JD Martinez cheated with the 2018 Red Sox don’t you?
The Red Sox were more sophisticated than the Astros though. Instead of banging on trash cans, they relayed the signs with Apple watches.
Ha.
Dodger fans were all “we don’t need him, don’t want him” yesterday when everyone thought he was signing with the Jays.
“ Out of control — $700M for a seriously injured player? Uh, no.”
He can still hit, and it’s marketing.
“ Stupid Dodgers. They aren’t winning a title as long as Dave Roberts is the manager. No matter who they sign.”
Maybe, but Roberts didn’t bat .000 and .100 in the playoffs. Mookie Betts and Freddy Freeman did.
How much did you have on them to win it all?
“In baseball if I hit a double and then steal third base do I have 3 total bases? I got two with the hit. Don’t know.”
No.
Just two for the double.
Total bases are used to compute slugging percentage.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Bye Felicia, enjoy October crash and burns Shohei and don’t let the door slam on your ass on the way. My Angels didn’t go to the playoffs once with him and Trout. In fact, this pair never had a winning season.
Honestly, I am glad he is gone no more drama.
Exactly.
I can remember the Barry Bonds free agent contract in 1992 which went for 6 years/$42 million and people were up in arms over that contract. Shohei’s contract per year, is ten times that amount and Shohei hasn’t even played in the postseason.
“29yo, fresh off Tommy John surgery, signed to a 10 year, $700 Million contract. Go figure.”
A 29 year old probably has 6 or 7 years of productive time in front of him, the remaining 3 years are very possibly going to be spent on the bench.
ever since this huge disparity in team payrolls started, 20-25 years ago, tv ratings for the WS havecratered....hitting rock bottom last year when only 8 million watched game 3 last year. Thats a far cry from the 30-50 million that watched in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Highest rated ever was the 1980 WS...Royals-Phillies, where at least 45 million watched for EACH game. Pittsburgh, Cincinnati etc know they have zero chance every year of winning and fans there just dont care anymore. Thats why the ratings are so bad now. 20-25 years of this has done alot of damage.
Thank you.
“My Angels didn’t go to the playoffs once with him and Trout.”
Just think what a treasure trove the Angels could have landed had they traded those two like my Reds did. By now, the Angels would probably have won the WS at least twice.
Please tell me your definition of the later golden age of baseball. My Dad’s Tigers one it in ‘84 after starting the season at 35-5, my Royals won it in ‘85, I think George Brett hit about .390 that year.
