Stupid Dodgers. They aren’t winning a title as long as Dave Roberts is the manager.

But they did win a championship with Roberts. Granted it was the COVID season but still...

In all fairness, the Dodgers were robbed of a legit full season World Series Championship by Houston.

Closing in on a billion dollars for a professional athlete - I can still remember sports journalists gasping because Dave Winfield signed the first contract worth a million dollars a year.

Before his injury, you'd have to say Ohtani was worth it - no player since Babe Ruth could make a case for both the Cy Young and the batting title. But with his pitching future in doubt, the Dodgers are definitely paying for his past.

FWIW, most of it is deferred money, which lowers the Dodgers’ luxury-tax hit to allow them to put a better team around Ohtani. My guess is that for practical purposes, it takes them out of the Yamamoto sweepstakes.

Ohtani’s salary is more than the Yankees are paying Judge adn Cole combined.

The comeback rate from one Tommy John surgery is 90%.

The comeback rate from two Tommy John surgeries is 20%.

Ohtani-Betts-Freeman is a pretty good middle of the order.

For luxury tax purposes, it doesn’t matter if the contract is front loaded or back loaded.

Actually, it’s usually the owners who want the longer contract. The players are concerned with the total value of the contract. The owners like to stretch the money out so their luxury tax payment is lower.

The two World Series combatants came from Dallas and Phoenix.

I wonder how many Americans will be able to afford attending a MLB game in five years.

It’s a straight ten-year deal. No buyouts, no opt outs.

Houston shouldn’t even have been in that World Series. They robbed the Yankees in the ALCS.

I can still remember Pittsburgh sportswriters having a conniption at the Pirates giving Roberto Clemente a $100,000/yr contract.

The entire 2023 payroll for the KC Royals was 102 million. 700 million will buy 6 full seasons with room to spare. Ridiculous.
