It is difficult to know how many human bear contacts there are in Alaska and in the lower 48 states. Bears tend to like places humans like.

Not surprised at all. Where I live (across the border from the Lower 48), Black Bears are the biggest wildlife-related threat to campers just two hours’ drive to the north of the city. Mean bastards!

I have been hiking twice in Glacier National Park in the past three years. I have seen grizzlies up close on both occasions, not by choice. They tended to ignore us although none were females with cubs.
