Dominic DiNapoli (Dom DeLuise) is the middle child of an Italian-American family in New York City. He lives in the upstairs apartment of his older sister Antoinette’s house (Anne Bancroft) with their little brother Frank (Ron Carey). Their cousin Sal has died from obesity at the age of 39, which has led to Antoinnette harping on Dom to do something about his own weight and eating habits. Dom joins Chubby Checkers, a play on Weight Watchers, but finds his sponsors seem to possess as weak a will as himself...
Great script, fantastic cast, can't say enough great things about it!
I remember this movie! “God Bless the DiNapoli boys!” Or something like that.
Funny movie!
I saw it when it first came out and many times afterwards, on T.V. and I also have a disc of it.
Anne Bancroft wrote it, directed it, and is a cast member.
They don't make good movies, like this, anymore; sadly.
Thanks for the link.
Sadly for me, I look more like Dom Delouise today than when the movie came out! (Except I still have most of my hair…)
Wow I remember this. Anyone remember a movie called “The mad adventures of Rabbi Jacob”? That was the first movie I ever went to a theater to see
Then maybe you need to lock your cabinets and icebox; just kidding. ;^)
GET THE HONEY!
Then maybe you need to lock your cabinets and icebox; just kidding. ;^)
I was forced to attend AA meetings as a condition to overcome a DUI sentence. As the horrible stories just made me want to drink when I was better off not hearing them I feel for anyone being castigated for bad habits with well-meaning “friends” trying to help.
If I didn’t have self discipline they wouldn’t still be around assuming to stand in other’s shoes.
I liked Dom, knew him for years, had a lot of fun talking to him at his shack in malibu, real nice guy he was.
They made you go to AA, for a DUI? I didn't know that that was done.
The scene where Dom calls his over eating support group over to help him is classic!
🙂👍
Yes. Along with a mandatory “safety course” where you’re shaken down for more money DUI convicts are often made to attend an involuntary week of captivity in a bad-joke attempt to readjust our minds, capped off with a little speech from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
I learned that the magnificent ancient tree outside’s huge side branch was used for countless lynchings way back. I argued well with that MADD mom and felt for her loss but unlike her I didn’t want to see more people swinging from it.
Still and all, this is REALLY off topic.
Have you seen this movie? If not, do so; it's a lovely little film!
Not off topic as I was addressing the fanaticism of people who believe forcing their mindset on others is justifiable while the current political framework allows it.
We see this psychology carrying on ten years after Dom’s passing with “fat-shaming” and the equally ridiculous effort to have us excuse bad dietary habits. You can change physically ugly with drastic means but you can definitely make yourself fit with far less effort with discipline.
Just leave my Clover Valley Chunky Chocolate Chip cookies alone. People have learned how great they are and I find them out of stock all the time. Those bastards!
I loved that movie.
I doubt it, since you want t6o make4 this thread all about YOU and your concerns.
There is NOT "fat shaming"; this about SAVING SOMEONE'S LIFE, due to early deaths caused by obesity. And it's actually a LOVE STORY...familial love, romantic love, and acceptance.
GO WATCH THE FILM !
