I wouldn’t argue with those number substantially, I would add though those numbers are based on verified information, and if a death cannot be substantiated as happening directly from the war, or has not been found then they are not counted. So I would say the numbers a very basic bottom line figure and the number is likely higher either way using those numbers Russia has lost at least 5 times the number killed in less than two years than soviets reported lost in Afghanistan in 10 years(if you believe those numbers which seems unlikely)

Russia is not the Soviet Union and certainly not the Soviet Union of WW2, and if loses are as low as you and others state, curious why they are on their third or fourth mobilization?

Make it sound like this is Ukraine’s fault. Russia did the invading.

Where do you get your mobilization idea?
It is Ukraine that is scraping for troops.

Are you confusing Russian mobilization with the typical semiannual callup of conscripts for mandatory military service?

Conscripts do not serve outside of Russian territory unless there is a declared war. Now there is none, though hardliners have pressured Putin to scrap the SMO and go to full war footing.

Shoigu indicates that since the SMO, Russia has mobilized about 400,000 men.
This was done by calling up reservists, inviting former military to rejoin as contract forces ( with hefty salary and bennies) and having the districts of the RF to form mobilized units of volunteers. Also forming redemption units from prisoners and from Ukes that defected or POWs electing to fight for Russia.

All of the mobilized required 2 -6 months of training before being deployed. ( Ukes on the other hand, get 2 weeks if being sent as fodder)

Most of the Russian mobilized have not yet been deployed to frontline combat…if Ukraine had broken through the Surovikin lines to TokMak, there may have been tens of thousands of Russian troops waiting for them. The mobilized in rear reserve may require more training to stay proficient if not deployed soon. It is this troop-heavy reserve of hundreds of thousands of the mobilized…that keep western analysts waiting and guessing about a true Russian offensive move this winter or spring.

Russia govt has issued orders to increase the overall size of the Russian military. So conscription numbers will be increasing. The next tranche will be in Jan-Feb, I believe. Western “ analysts” and Ukraine will spin this normal action as an offensive threat. However, conscripts are for defense of the homeland, not war in Ukraine. Though the defense of the annexed territories ( which may include 5 or more oblasts not the original Donbass, and possibly Odessa) ) will require eventually a larger Russian army,

Experienced analysts who can speak freely acknowledge that Russia was goaded into this war to face a Ukrainian army built up trained and equipped by the US, London and NATO (keeping Russia at bay under the false diplomacy of the Minsk Accord) ……NATO the US and London having proven wrong in virtually every estimate of the result.

This war was meant to happen by western planners.

First I will call BS on the 2-6 months training, second that’s why (though law means little to Putin, appearances seem to) the Ukrainian territories were annexed, they “are” part of Russia so no restrictions.

True Russia has annual conscription, have you noticed their tours are indefinitely extended. And calling up “reservists” is no different than mobilization. Your number is 400k plus nearly four years of annual conscription so that would be 660k, plus what they had. My question was why do they need all of this if Ukraine has such loses, would assume they could roll over Ukraine anytime they wanted.

Maybe meat waves is just another “goodwill” gesture

“Redemption units” now that is a good one

Not discounting Ukraines loses or their need for more soldiers, but the hey no big deal for Russia….. that’s the one I like the best

ukraine is not worth sacrificing my sons lives for.

It’s not worth me working overtime to pay taxes to send to them over, especially when American states and cities need the cash that I send to the treasury.

Democrats’ sweeping foreign-aid measure providing $110.5 billion for Ukraine, Israel and other global hot spots was blocked by Republicans in an initial procedural vote. Forty-nine senators backed the measure and 51 were against, falling short of the 60-vote threshold needed to advance.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) had originally voted in favor, but he changed his vote in order to preserve the right to bring the bill up again. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who caucuses with Democrats, also voted against the measure.

In remarks just ahead of the vote, Biden warned that failure by Congress to pass new aid for Ukraine could ultimately lead the U.S. into direct conflict with Russia if it won and continued to march westward. He said the administration is willing to work with Republicans to do “significantly more” on border security to get a deal done while also chiding GOP lawmakers.

“Republicans think they get everything they want, without any bipartisan compromise. That’s not the answer,” Biden said. He accused them of “playing chicken with our national security.”

The White House has warned that the U.S. will be unable to continue providing weapons and equipment to Ukraine if no additional funding is approved by the end of the year.

The defeat on the Senate floor marked a major public blow for backers of Ukraine aid and raised fears that there isn’t enough political will in Congress to pass more assistance, which has topped $100 billion since the war began. But its failure also drew clearer lines on where both parties stand and could set the stage for several weeks of breakneck talks to reach a compromise before Christmas.

And, this is why all money to Ukraine for military purposes must end regardless of what the Republicans finally, an inexcusably late, do about the border.

All continuing this proxy war is going to do is result in the needless loss of more Ukrainian lives and continue to allow the political class and their cronies to launder money. It's disgustingly evil and must stop.

“Curious how many 17 year olds are in orphanages in the US?”

There are NO seventeen year olds living in orphanages in the US because there are NO orphanages currently operating in the US. The progressives decided that foster care was the best way to let paedophiles and homos get access to the kids at the youngest ages so the orphanages were phased out as the kids were sent to foster parents. Some foster parents do a good job and raise the kids right. Too many see the kids as toys for their own perversions or simply a paycheck every month.

Democrats divided over whether to attach conditions to Israel aid

Senate Democrats on Wednesday continue to debate whether more conditions need to be placed on aid sent to Israel, just one in a series of hurdles stalling a legislative package members in both chambers of Congress hope to send to aid Israel, Ukraine and the US southern border.

Democratic Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont, who has been outspoken in advocating for conditions to be placed on any aid to Israel, told CNN on Wednesday morning that he would not necessarily vote against an aid package if conditions were not included.

Pressed on if he’d still back aid to Israel without conditions, Welch told CNN: “We’re not at that point yet. So I’ve always supported Israel aid and I expect that I will, but I’m making my point of concern, very clear.”

Many Senate Democrats who are opposed to conditioning aid to Israel have argued that the administration is engaging already with Israel about how it conducts its military operations and that international laws already exist to govern the rules of war. Democrats met with IDF officials Monday night to discuss the issue as well.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who has also been advocating for conditions on the aid, wouldn’t say Tuesday when pressed on if he’d vote against an aid package to Israel if more conditions were not included.

Conditions on the aid was the topic of a robust debate in Democratic lunch on Tuesday, members told CNN. But the chances of conditioning aid aren’t likely as top Democrats including Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, have warned against it.

Republicans have outright rejected adding them including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer dodged the question earlier this week when pressed by CNN’s Manu Raju.

Any package that passes the Senate would also have to get through the GOP-led House, which is also likely to reject conditions on the aid to Israel.

Murphy was deeply skeptical a deal can be reached this week — even though the group is trying to secure an accord that could pave the way for passage of the Ukraine and Israel aid. Murphy had said earlier this week that the group needed to have a deal by week’s end in order to have time for Congress to consider the larger package before Christmas.

“I think it’s becoming less and less likely that we’ll have a deal by the end of the week,” Murphy told CNN on Wednesday.

CNN’s Manu Raju, Morgan Rimmer and Lauren Koenig contributed to this report.
