Two words prove what you say: "Scotch" and "Eggs". :) I worked in Birmingham for a while and absolutely adore English food.

But I grew up in Georgia and I *never* heard of chicken and waffles until I moved to the mountain west, where everybody and their brother tells me it's a "traditional Southern food"!

I love English boiled chicken. No one makes it like grandma did but she’s no longer with us. I also love a good English breakfast.

Chicken and waffles is definitely soul food, which many times gets mixed up with southern food.

Chicken and waffles are (sort of) soul food that has it's roots in New York City. (We will now pause for the cows to conclude their chorus of "New York City?")

It comes from the early 1900s when a lot of black musicians were playing jazz in the clubs. When the club closed at about four in the morning you went to eat at the only places that were open, the diners. Where you could get left over fried chicken and they would have made the batter for the breakfast waffles they would soon be serving to the breakfast crowd.

It was the fastest and cheapest food on the menu.

And it is also tasty.
