I’d wager she didn’t like the husband and didn’t want the marriage in the first place.
As far as I’m concerned, the man can rescind his offer and litigate the MIL into the poor house.
Quote: “A prospective MIL sabotaged my planned marriage. In retrospect, it likely was a moment of mercy.”
MIL sabotaged my first wedding to my now wife. We worked through it and got married. But MIL learned her place in the marriage. Namely, stay the eff out!!
So stupid to hold the bars responsible.
Well there is an argument one could make that a marriage that was about 4 hours old would not qualify one to take possession of the deceased’s estate. It wasn’t even consummated.
Eh. She found a lawyer and apparently has enough money to pay him. Lawyers will take loser cases as long as the suckers will pay.
This has the potential to allow attorneys to keep it going until they are the ones who get the estate. Gotta love the legal (theft) system.
She looks like the creature from It: The Terror From Beyond Space.
I knew people who got married, but never filed the paperwork.
He may not look at it that way.
Wow.
That may not be true. She had previously described him in glowing terms.
Dang! She’s been rode hard and put up wet!
I was the executor of my mother’s estate. I kept trying to show my sister the bank balances and how much each of us would get after the expenses which I tried to go over with her constantly. Finally she said “stop. You’re the most honest person I know. Just cut me a check when its all over” I fixed my Mom’s house up so much I sold it for more than the appraised value. When my sister got her check from the closing attorney she couldn’t believe it. 😄
“When my wife died, after a 10-year cancer battle in which they only showed up on the day she died and left hours before she passed. The FIL told me point-blank, she is dead now so, no need to ever contact again. That included his grandson too.”

Wow! What a cruel family. That attitude is something they will regret one day.
Sometimes it is shocking to see just how despicable people are in any given situation. Several years ago, after one of my BIL’s lost his State Trooper SIL to cancer, everyone was stunned when the mother and father of the deceased claimed the life insurance and refused to give any of it to the widow since the deceased had failed to change the beneficiary to his new wife in the midst of his battle with cancer. They left her with absolutely nothing but her grief.

Too bad Alex Murdaugh is in jail. This case would be right up his alley. Interestingly enough, Steven Smith, the gay kid supposedly run down on a dark country road in the middle of the night, is rumored to have been Buster Murdaugh’s lover. He was silenced to prevent Buster from being outed. I think Paw Paw batted him. The Murdaugh’s would go to great lengths to protect the family name.
Could be but words, previously or otherwise, are cheap & easy.
Her actions following indicate otherwise.
Where there’s a will, there’s a relative.
Wow, classy!
Horrible. Despicable.
One of my friends nursed her 45-year-old husband through brain cancer, during the treatment of which he was unfaithful (something that happened with more than one of my friends when their man needed to prove he was still attractive after radiation and hair falling out, etc). Shortly after he died, her wealthy mother-in-law showed up with a UHaul and removed the antiques she had given them when they had married 15 years prior.
