Taylor Swift is telling me a story, and when Taylor Swift tells you a story, you listen, because you know it’s going to be good—not only because she’s had an extraordinary life, but because she’s an extraordinary storyteller. This one is about a time she got her heart broken, although not in the way you might expect. She was 17, she says, and she had booked the biggest opportunity of her life so far—a highly coveted slot opening for country superstar Kenny Chesney on tour. “This was going to change my career,” she remembers. “I was so excited.” But a couple weeks later, Swift arrived home to find her mother Andrea sitting on the front steps of their house. “She was weeping,” Swift says. “Her head was in her hands as if there had been a family emergency.” Through sobs, Andrea told her daughter that Chesney’s tour had been sponsored by a beer company. Taylor was too young to join. “I was devastated,” Swift says. But some months later, at Swift’s 18th birthday party, she saw Chesney’s promoter. He handed her a card from Chesney that read, as Swift recalls, “I’m sorry that you couldn’t come on the tour, so I wanted to make it up to you.” With the note was a check. “It was for more money than I’d ever seen in my life,” Swift says. “I was able to pay my band bonuses. I was able to pay for my tour buses. I was able to fuel my dreams.” Photograph by Inez and Vinoodh for TIME Listening to Swift share this, on a clear fall afternoon in her New York City apartment, I’m struck by how satisfying the story is.

God, help us and America because it ain’t looking good for our future.
25k illegals a day coming over the border and this vapid ho is center of the American universe. We need an American ‘William Wallace’.
She is Soros’ little Satanic puppet.
so Entertainment is more important than business science or politics.
I would have picked the leader of Hamas
Taylor Swift - Primo example #1 why teen girls should be banned from buying music.
Maybe she’ll write a song about it...........................
I didn’t know TS was trans.

And this will absolutely be the cycle she makes an endorsement and they can spin it as the Swifty election.
She praises Traitor Joe at every one of her concerts so here ya go.
She’s will likely do a “ get out the vote” for Dems this summer
Here she is in 2020 attacking Republicans

All I can say is that I don’t understand the Taylor Swift phenomenon. It’s the madness of crowds. I don’t hear anything interesting in her music — but I’m hardly the right demographic for it.
They really wanted to make the HAMAS terrorist leader Yahya Sinwar in GAZA their man of the year... But he wasn’t available for photographs.
The best spin on this pick is that ‘Time’ chose Swift just to sell more copies. Any other reason would be even worse.
And I reluctantly agree with ChronicMA. As revolting as it would be, the leaders of Hamas would be an appropriate choice. They have caused a situation where every person in the West now has to make a decision: support Israel or support Hamas. One cannot be neutral after such a horrible massacre.
Or to put it another way, support the Jewish people or support those who want to kill every last Jew. Hamas has put that decision before us.
It’s a sad state of affairs if a pop tart is the one who influences peoples’ minds the most.
Not really a “fan”, but she literally changed a huge industry. She changed the way licensing is done for her catalog. She changed the way concert tickets are sold. She redefined the “concert movie”. And she did most of it in a customer focused way that most companies have wandered away from over the past couple of decades.
Once you examine what she had accomplished, her impact on the pop culture has been significant.
Kindergarten Rock. The “Bubblegum Music” of the new millennium.
TIME needs the money.
In the past, the Man of the Year , which she evolved into the person of the year, was the person who had the biggest impact on the news and world events in that year.
It’s hard to believe Taylor Swift had the biggest impact on world events during the year.
Because she had a major impact on popular culture, that makes her the biggest newsmaker of the year?
