Fact: It Is ONLY About MONEY

Why is it that the medical authorities will not tell anyone who is Type II diabetic to quit eating fast carbohydrates?

Ditto for anyone who is overweight, obese, or has deteriorating metabolic markers such as body mass, A1c or fasting glucose?

It makes no money.

It is a fact that if you do not take in carbohydrates it is extremely difficult to be Type II diabetic. Why? Because your body then has to manufacture glucose and, while it can, that is metabolically difficult and thus it generally won't. Your cells run on ATP, not glucose and there are two metabolic pathways to generate ATP; from glycogen (glucose) or lipids (fats.) Your body can store about 2,000kcal of energy in the form of glycogen between your muscles and liver, but that's all. This is somewhat more than one day's worth of base metabolic requirement if you perform no work (just sitting around or laying in bed) thus if there was no other form of ATP synthesis you would die if you couldn't eat every day, yet you do not die. The body processes lipids (fat) into ATP and synthesizes a small amount of glucose in this situation. It is metabolically more-difficult and physics tells us that the easy path is taken preferentially when it is available in every case, thus if you have both fat and glycogen available you will use the glycogen first. This fact is why humans and all other animals exist as otherwise as soon as your food source was interrupted for even a short period of time you would die!

Just some of the many reasons I have lost faith in the Medical Community, but this has been going on a long time now. When I was growing up, there were very few Fat people, but this was before we had Artificial or Imitation anything and pre-processed foods were not the norm.

Yes, medicine prioritizes profits and money, as do most industries. Everyone needs to understand that so as to put recommendations into perspective.

While this is factual, there is another reason. Wokeism. A doctor can’t tell a fat person they are fat, it may hurt their feelings.

Right on point. And the "wokeism" comment adds to the picture.

So many entities from government, to government-adjacent want a compliant populace in chaos, ready to "uptake" ideas and products and political stances, crying aloud "save us." It is so often the mark of the con.

I’ve been on a protein/non-carb diet for the past 6 months.

I love bread and potatoes, but completely stopped. First 2 weeks were difficult due to the carb cravings.

1 meal a day - dinner around 6. Large portion of protein, lot of leafy greens...lettuce, cabbage, peppers and the like. I allow myself onions on occasion. Other than that lots of fluids throughout the day- coffee, tea, water.

In the first month I lost 10 lbs. I’ve been floating at that weight since. If I cheat - like on Thanksgiving, I immediately add pounds back and it takes a week to drop them again.

THAT.

My recent post (an hour ago) on Alzheimer's and 'diet' echoes the same (the omissions are telling).

I took a bunch of anti-oxidants for a week and my brain felt fantastic!

I asked the doc if that feeling was caused by the anti-oxidants.

“Sure! We just don’t make any money prescribing them like we do for psych meds.”

You have engaged the ‘yo-yo diet’, the inevitable conclusion of all restrictive ‘diets’ of the type.

I encourage you to abandon it immediately and reintroduce healthful carbs in moderation.

You CAN AND WILL lose a pound or more a day in stages by rotating your meals, provided that there aren’t other factors - e.g., gut related - impacting your health.

Do consult with a naturopath.

I’m a bit surprised by that sentence. I don’t think I have the best doctor in the world (long story). But when my A1C number started moving upward, that’s exactly what my doctor told me.

And his physician’s assistant handed me a colorful diabetes brochure that said the same. His practice sure isn’t hiding anything. Is that so unusual?

Grandpa always said, “Eat fresh fruits and vegetables for 80 years and you won’t die young.”

I have never really been very overweight, I check in at around 185, 5’11 and blood pressure is 125/70 most of the time and I am 63. If I go back to eating one meal a day, I will shed 3-5 pounds a week, regardless of what I eat, but my wife insists on making me a lunch everyday so I pretty much maintain 185-190. We eat NO processed foods, nothing instant, no artificial or imitation anything, she cooks fresh food for every meal we have. Before we were married many years ago, I maintained 175-180 my whole life, but marriage and regular eating tends to add a few pounds here and there occasionally. And I NEVER stop drinking the Red Wine, EVER!

One of the first things new doctors learn is not to tell patients how to eat. It angers patients because it rightly blames them for their conditions and tells them to do the one thing they will refuse to do, stop eating things they are addicted to. They walk out the door and into another doctor’s office.

And therein lies the rub, I am just about the only patient my Doctors have that demands answers to everything and I always do my own research beforehand to make sure he doesn’t try to pull stupid on me. It works and he is brutally honest with me at least, his other patients, well, let’s just say they enjoy ignorant bliss...

Well - there hasn’t been any yo-yo in 6 months outside of indulging in carbs on a cheat basis and that’s been maybe twice in the same time frame.

The only real things I’m avoiding are potatoes, rice, soy, and wheat products (bread/noodles).

Protein, vegetables, and fruits - fresh and not processed. My energy is up and after the first few weeks there are no cravings.

I’m 5’9 at 165 lbs. I’d prefer to get to 155 lbs, but feel good where I’m at.

I’m sleeping better than before as well.

My doc used to tell me that every visit. I think MOST folks have stopped going to a “primary” doc and go to large practices.

Same Doctor for 40 years, I don’t like new, it took a lot of hard work to get my Doctor trained to answer my questions and I don’t want to go through it again...
