"Takin' Care of Business" is a song written by Randy Bachman and first recorded by Canadian rock group Bachman–Turner Overdrive (BTO) for their 1973 album Bachman–Turner Overdrive II. The lead vocal is sung by Randy.
Randy Bachman had developed what would later become "Takin' Care of Business" while still a member of The Guess Who. His original idea was to write about a recording technician who worked on The Guess Who's recordings. This particular technician would take the 8:15 train to get to work, inspiring the lyrics "take the 8:15 into the city".
The song reached number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (August 10, 1974), number 6 on the Cash Box Top 100, and number 3 on the Canadian RPM charts, and would become one of BTO's most enduring and well-known songs. "Takin' Care of Business" spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, longer than any other BTO single. Cash Box called it "hard rock with a strong blues base," stating that "Randy Bachman's lead vocals are perfect, and the group's music is unbeatable." (Wikipedia)

Awesome song!
The song was written about an audio producer who was blind. He’d literally get up every morning from alarm clock warning and take the 8:15 train.
There’s nothing wrong about overdrives.
My truck has two.
I always thought BTO lacked something, everything seemed to be manufactured. It was like music by committee like it was all studio guys using form books. But maybe that’s just me.
I remember some radio personality doing a bit about BTO being the biggest band in showbiz.
“No really, did you ever see them in person? Those guys are huge!”
Ping for your wisdom.
I've heard them called "Bachman Turner Overweight."
That was definitely the Alabama Crimson Tide today
Had that as my ringtone for a long time. Now I have “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by the Temptations. I start singing every time my phone rings.
Good tune. Many assume the song is about celebrating the working man “taking care of business” but actually it’s the opposite. The song is poking fun at the 9-5’ers and bragging about the fact that as a musician, you could lie out in the sun all day and avoid that rat race altogether.
That’s my retirement plan- I’m 60 now and plan to reinvent myself as a DJ. Tried that in the 1980s and had some success but still ended up chasing money.
Take good care
Of my business
While I’m away
Every day...
Great song.
