WASHINGTON, Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Information received from the Army of the Potomac up to Monday noon.

The train captured on the Plank-road on Friday is said to have contained a small quantity of ammunition, which the rebels exploded; they also captured the mules -- eighty of which they carried away, and killed the remainder. The wagon-master was killed, and the drivers (two excepted) were conveyed away as prisoners.

In relation to affairs on the front on Saturday, it is stated at daylight that our army lay across the Fredericksburgh and Orange turnpike, at Robertson's tavern, about twelve miles from Orange Courthouse.

The rebel line was light, and was gradually pushed back by our skirmishers for one mile and a half over to Mine Run, near Verdiesville. On both sides of the road, sloping a half mile on each side of the river, is an open space, and on the edge of the woods west of the river the enemy were in line of battle, on both sides of the road, with their batteries intrenched. The slope from thence to the river is studded with rifle-pits from which the sharpshooters fired scattering shots. About one in the afternoon the clouds broke and the rain ceased, but the roads were almost in an impassable condition. One of our batteries fired a few shots, to which the rebels replied with great spirit for about half an hour. The following positions for battle having been assigned to the several corps were taken by them during the day, and each was ready for its duty by 4 o'clock.

The Sixth corps, commanded by Maj.-Gen. SEDGWICK, on the right, next the Second corps, commanded by Maj.-Gen. WARREN, which held the turnpike, and, together with the First corps, commanded by Maj.-Gen. NEWTON, formed the centre:
