...Brittany Skoland, from Fort Dodge, was attacked by three pit bulls last Friday, leaving her in critical condition.
Police were called to the 800 block of South 16th Street in Fort Dodge at around 11:25am, by a neighbor who reported that they could hear someone yelling for help.
When an officer arrived on scene, they found a woman being mauled by three dogs.
After attempting to scare the dogs away the officer was forced to shoot each dog multiple times, killing all three. ...
Neighbor Kerri Johnson told KCCI about the horrifying scene....
'I stepped out into the driveway just to take a peek, I saw a black dog lying down on the ground, deceased, which is super sad,' he said.

I’ve never heard anyone advocate that you can train the basic instinct of a dog out of it like they do for pits.
Show me how to train a herding instinct out of a Border Collie, a retrieving/love of water instinct out of Labs, the rat killing instinct out of Terriers, or a digging instinct out of Dachshunds.
Pits are bred for fighting and killing. Same kind of instinctive behavior as others that can’t have it trained out of them.
Some people are immune to facts.
I thought that, too.
Only the owner could be upset that a dog that tore someone to pieces like that would be *sad* that it was justifiably killed.

I keep telling myself to not go on walks without bear spray. Or a sidearm. But I still go on neighborhood walks unarmed.

They should be treated like coyotes, bobcats, lynxes or wolverines--too dangerous to be allowed to be kept as pets.
Fault implies blame. Someone consciously conditioned these dogs to behave this way, to somehow learn this kind of response is an acceptable one and not out of the realm of normalcy.
Define middle of nowhere. Woman rural mail carrier got pulled from her truck and killed, I think woman animal controll officer investigating was killed too.

I thought that was a ‘Super’ stupid and vacuous thing for him to say, considering this woman was virtually torn apart by these dogs.

Where I live there has been a rash of loose dogs, some of whom got out of their houses or yards, some of whom were dumped. I see that reported on local social media. A lot of them are pit bulls. The animal shelters here are at capacity, and a lot of the dogs there are pit bulls. Sounds like a lot of owners are either negligent or are bailing out on their dogs.
Same here. That needs to change.
It’s not a tired excuse, it’s a fact. Any pet dog that attacks another person is the fault of the owner regardless of breed. Working dogs require supervision from their owners at all times especially when around other people.
