Philadelphia passes ski mask ban over crime concerns

PHILADELPHIA (TND) — The Philadelphia City Council passed a ban Thursday on so-called "sheisties" in certain public spaces.

The council's ban prohibit the use of ski masks and balaclavas in day cares, schools, parks, recreation centers, public transit and city buildings. Violators face a $250 fine, and those wearing the masks while committing a crime will assume a possible $2,000 fine.

We must send a message that masks are of no discernible public or private good when they just create fear and anxiety," Councilman Anthony Phillips stated, according to FOX 29.

Exceptions for religious freedom and "First Amendment activities" are included in the legislation, which passed by a 13-2 vote and awaits Mayor Jim Kenny's approval.

Phillips believes most crimes in Philadelphia are committed by suspects wearing ski masks. He argues the ban will help the police department solve cases.

“masks are of no discernible public or private good when they just create fear and anxiety,”

Can they even contemplate the irony?

What about gas stations, banks and grocery stores?

Oh, never mind. They would never be worn there.

Especially in banks. 🏦🏦🏦🏦

Exceptions for religious freedom and "First Amendment activities" are included in the legislation

Which means the legislation is completely worthless, since everyone will claim them.

That does it. I will no longer go skiing on the streets of Philadelphia.

And as a side note, this is a typical liberal response. Don’t focus on actual criminals. Instead focus on inanimate objects.

The criminals will simply switch to covid masks, which liberals and leftists love.

New Orleans has had a mask ban in effect for decades and decades, except for Mardi Gras day.

They have one of the highest crime rates in America....................

What about Lone Ranger masks?

{Idiots. Typical leftist band-aid solution when major surgery is needed.}

"Everything that is not mandatory is prohibited."

First they force people to wear masks, then they prohibit people from wearing masks, just as they're getting ready to force people to wear masks again.

At least the eye show when wearing a Covid mask. For most identification eyes are all that’s needed.

I've heard urban yutes and gang-bangers say that the ski-masks are for their protection - their enemies can't recognize them (and shoot them) if they are seen walking down the street.

YOU HAVE TO WEAR A MASK OR ELSE because of Covid.

YOU CANNOT WEAR A MASK OR ELSE because of crime.

Hmmm, which law do I break if I visit Philadelphia? My solution: do not EVER visit Philadelphia.

New Orleans joke told by George Noory of Coast to Coast am.

When on shore leave in New Orleans as a young man in the Navy he was approached by a young black kid probably 12 or so. “Mister I can bet you a $20 bill for something.” “What is it?” “I can tell you where you got your shoes.” Noory said he barely remembered and wasn’t sure where he bought his black leather shoes so wondered how this kid could con him. “Okay.” The kid looked down and pointed. “Mister, you got your shoes on Bourbon Street.” He handed over the $20.
