WASHINGTON, Monday, Nov. 30.
Army officers from Bealton Station to-night report that heavy cannonading was heard since early this morning in the direction of Orange Court-house. The firing was so heavy and continuous as to preclude the possibility of its being a skirmish. It was their opinion a general engagement was in progress at the time they last heard the firing, which was at 11 o'clock this forenoon.

DISPATCH TO THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
WASHINGTON, Monday, Nov. 30 -- 2:45 P.M.
The Republican, just issued, says:
"Up to this day there has been much fighting by regiments, brigades, divisions and corps, but there has not been a general battle, and while we have been worsted temporarily in skirmishes, the grand result is that LEE has been defeated and has gradually been failing back, and from present appearances will attempt to make a grand stand at Hanover Junction or Gordonsville, the base of rebel supplies.
KILPATRICK's loss on Friday, when he was compelled to fall back, was about fifty in killed and wounded.
