New Yorkers spend at least 236 HOURS in traffic each year as the top 10 worst cities for congestion are revealed - with one surprising entry (Honolulu)

New Yorkers can only dream about the thrill of the open road as a new survey reveals they spend more of their lives stuck in traffic than drivers anywhere in the US.

**SNIP**

New York has increased its unwanted lead since last year and the findings were released just hours after New York's Traffic Mobility Review Board released its congestion pricing plan that could see drivers slapped with extra fees of up to $36.

Drivers of cars, SUVs and pickup trucks would be charged $15 a day to enter Manhattan below 60th Street.

Small trucks would be charged $24, commercial trucks $36, and motorcycles $7.50.

Taxi drivers, who largely opposed congestion pricing, will add $1.25 to their fares and ride share app drivers, like Uber and Lyft, $2.50 per ride.

'Ultimately, it is passengers – not drivers – who make the choice to add to vehicle congestion despite readily accessible public transportation to and within the Central Business District,' the Board said in their proposal.

'For these reasons, the congestion toll should be passed onto the customer, as part of the passenger fare.'

The scheme, first proposed in 2007, is due to begin in the spring of next year and is predicted to generate $1 billion for the MTA to spend on public transport.

And a study released last year projected the fee would reduce the number of cars entering Manhattan by 15 to 20 percent.

'Congestion pricing will reduce traffic in our crowded downtown, improve air quality and provide critical resources to the MTA,' said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

But it has attracted furious opposition from taxi drivers who protested outside her office last month demanding to be exempted from the charges.

'The MTA is going to collapse the yellow cab sector unless the governor intervenes immediately,'...

That’s about it.

Problem is, the cost of living in DC is so high, that big salary which sounds like a lot ends up not going as far as some might think.

Add in the traffic, crime, the politics, the poor quality of life....I can see why people leave after a few years.

<>you could idle for literally years in an electric car<>

Unlike gas tanks, batteries lose charge whether in use or not.

OMG, just STOP! Front and back break lights are 31 watts, combined (23 and 8, and yes, I had to look that up). An electric car’s battery is over 100,000 watt-hours so that means that the break lights could be powered for over 1,000 days. The AC is a whopping 100 times more powerful than that, 3 kw, so it can be cycling on (compressor activated) for only 330 hours, or 13 days. That is so many times more longer than a gasoline engine, maybe a couple dozen!

Can you all just simply write, “I don’t know a damned thing about electric cars because I have a primitive fear of them, so I only read political diatribes about them, but I’m tellin’ ya, they must be evil!”?

While lead-acid batteries do lose charge fairly quickly, lithium ion car batteries DO lose charge only very slowly. Very, very, very slowly. About 2 to 5 percent per month, or about a few years before they’ve discharged fully. And that’s NOT on top of whatever slight electricity you’re consuming.

It’s like we’re discussing about whether you’ve brought enough food to hold you over for lunch, and you’re basing your arguments on how fast Twinkies spoil.

Seriously? Battery degradation has nothing to do with power consumption! That site is warning how you can maximize the LIFESPAN of your battery!

I’m curious: That’s a blog that folded briefly after it was created and was written with strictly 1990s-era HTML. How do you find such junk sources?

So I should promote lies and ignorance to serve a political end? I mean, what are you saying? You seem like you’re justifying the diatribes, even when their basis is a lie.

The government is certainly forcibly promoting EVs; does that ignorant nonsense from knuckle-dragging Luddites is true? I’m sick of so many conservative news source having absolutely zero standards for truth. Let’s say you ARE trying to argue with Leftists about the virtues and vices of EVs. Do you think it helps to say something that will justly make the liberal roll his eyes and decide you don’t have a clue? We need truth on our side because we must argue by persuasion, not the brute force of totalitarianism.
