#1. Nirvana: 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' (1991)

Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhodes.
Actually one of my favorite Bowie songs is 1993’s “Jump They Say”.
Rush: The Spirit of Radio
Damn, I didn’t see “the 1990.”
I just saw this was “1990s.” I didn’t think there was anything good from that decade. I could be wrong.
Hey Man Nice Shot — Filter
Man in the Box — Alice In Chains
The Distance — Cake
Isobel — Bjork
Nobody Loves Me — Portishead
Stupid Girl — Garbage
Uninvited — Alanis Morisette
Several good songs by Macey Gray on her first album that never got any radio play. Radiohead had a bunch of good ones. Jeff Buckley had several.
Glycerine is the best 80’s song.
I’ve got to admit 90’s music pretty much passed me by, can’t think of a single song that sticks in my head. Busy with three children and a career at that time.
Yeah, I’d come up dry after about...ten.
Beautiful voice and dead too soon. Zombie is always very popular at karaoke.
Grunge was huge but short-lived with the meteoric rise of Nirvana and then Pearl Jam. Cobain's death had something to do with its decline too.
And that reminds me of Counting Crows too... Mr Jones?! Hanging Around?! Two good nineties pieces.
Cannonball - The Breeders
Seether - Veruca Salt
Good ones. I especially liked Cannonball. And I’ll toss in Connection by Elastica.
Seems like Chris Isaak’s song Wicked Game should get a mention...
1. "The Fire Inside" by Bob Seger (not known for his 1990s work)
2. "Take It Back" by Pink Floyd (not a well-known hit for this band)
3. "Sullivan Street" by the Counting Crows (maybe the most underrated song of the 90s)
4. "Key West Intermezzo" by John Mellencamp (the best song for this 1980s icon was a 1990s hit)
5. "The World I Know" by Collective Soul
6. "Back 2 Good" by Matchbox 20 (surprisingly high for me)
7. "Freshmen" by the Verve Pipe
8. "No One To Run With" by the Allman Brothers (a remarkable 1990s song for a 1970s band)
9. "How's It Going To Be" by Third Eye Blind (I didn't like this song much for a long time, but it has really grown on me in the last few years)
10. "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne (very un-Ozzy like)
I can listen to the piano track in this one for hours:
The Fire Inside by Bob Seger
Excellent summary. Still lots of good 80s music, but really peaked in the seventies. The biggest tragedy, I think, is that great jazz, sadly, has given way to crappy rap.
