I saw the Pogues open for Los Lobos in L.A. years ago and it was such a fun strange combination. The gangster types in the audience to see Los Lobos didn't know what to make of Shane. They just stood there stunned. LOL! May he rest in peace! Thanks for the great music.

Until this obit, I’ve never heard of the group or their music. I’ll look them up on YT. RIP anyway.

RIP Shane.
McGowan in his much younger days. It's quite a miracle he even made it to 30 let alone 65.

Yep. That is the face of a man who could write “It was Christmas Eve... In the drunk tank.”

He eventually did get a full set of choppers and actually looked much better before he got sick again.

He lived to 65 but those were hard years indeed.
Not much on looks, hygiene or good health habits in general, but he was inarguably a brilliant songwriter.
The Pogues is one of my favorite Celtic rock bands. Not only did they produce a lot of great songs but also what is arguably the best contemporary secular Christmas song ever ("Fairytale of New York"), which has been covered about a thousand times by other rock performers.
The below is not only my favorite Pogues song (written by Shane) but one of my favorite songs overall.
The Pogues - A Rainy Night In Soho

Saw The Pogues in Notthingham, England long ago. Shane would sing a couple songs while desperately holding onto the microphone stand so he wouldn't topple over. He's disappear from stage for a bit, then come back out to sing. This was repeated throughout the show.
The cover of Dirty Old Town is my fave.
RIP, you enjoyable sot.

Yes, I'm familiar with that one too.
If you have Sirius/XM, I would highly recommend the show "Celtic Crush" with Larry Kirwan. It is on the Loft channel Sunday mornings from 9-noon. Also avaiable on demand for streaming for a couple of weeks after each broadcast.
He plays a very wide variety of music from traditional Celtic to modern day rock bands with a Celtic sound. I'm sure he'll have a lot of Pogues music lined up for Sunday's show.
