In his book, Childhood's End, the Overlord Karellen, the "Supervisor for Earth," (Extraterrestrial/Space Brother) periodically meets with Rikki Stormgren, the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Karellen tells Stormgren that the Overlords will reveal themselves in 50 years, when humanity will have become used to their presence. When the Overlords finally reveal their appearance, they resemble the traditional Christian images of demons, particularly the goat-headed demon Baphomet, with cloven hooves, leathery wings, horns, and barbed tails.

The threat would be not so much that mankind could do substantial harm to ETs but that we are beginning to become capable of monitoring and frustrating their forays and manipulations of the human population. My guess is that high energy lasers and EMP type weapons near deployment for ordinary military purposes will also give some capability against UFOs. Even now, tech that is in civilian hands like magnetometers and scopes with night vision and multi-spectral imaging is thought to be able to detect UFOs.

On what do you base your assumption that so-called "aliens" came from "across interstellar distances"?

Since the 1970's, most people who have followed this subject closely have concluded that, whatever these things are, they are interdimensional or perhaps even what we humans might call spiritual in nature.
