Technically it’s a marimba. But close enough.
If they flipped it, and had artists with only one country hit in the ‘70s, they could include Paul McCartney, who hit the country charts with Sally G (flip side of Junior’s Farm)
And, “Driver’s Seat” is a good one!
How about “Pick Up The Pieces” by The Average White Band? I cannot for the life of me think of another tune by them that even made the charts, but...that one was part of the soundtrack of my life!
Ah! As soon as I posted, I thought of at least one other hit they had and it was a good one: “Play That Funky Music White Boy”...
I guess that disqualifies them!
Yes, of course-I thought you said xylophone and I copied it! Lazy of me...:)
Route 101 in NH west to Rt 9 across southern VT becomes route 7 in NY. I would take that to 87 to 90 west when traveling to my mom’s house in WNY. It is the most direct route from southern NH to NY state. It is also the the quickest way unless it is snowing in the Green Mountains of VT.
Dropping down to I90 in Worchester, MA takes about an hour from my house.
It's by far the best song the group (Sad Café) ever did.
10cc's I'm Not In Love is like that too. Sort of a 70s thing.
Yep, I go thru there to visit Manchester VT etc :) Only way out of the Capital region, although there is a back way, but thru Troy is more efficient. My niece went to Lally School of Management/ RPI.
Mississippi Queen is the best. Seasons in the Sun the worst
Probably THE most favorite 70s song on my list ...
Just outside of Troy is Valente Lumber, where they have my log siding etc.

At the top of my list of WORST 70s songs ...
Probably a dumb question but here it is anyway:
Did any of Johnny Horton’s songs ever make it to #1?
I loved that guy’s voice Oddly(?) I loved Mama Cass Eliot’s voice too.
Plus, I used to love to stop at the Man of Kent Tavern in Hoosick Falls, NY on Rt 7 just over the VT border.
Check out Satellites by The Big Dish group. Every song on the album is a masterpiece. I’m not in love has the same parameters as the rwo songs you mentioned.
Yep, a local favorite
Met BJ Thomas once - really nice, personable guy. RIP.
Brandy remains an all time favorite. Elliott Lurie later became president of MGM music. He still goes into clubs occasionally and sings it with his guitar. I think he wrote the song to impress some hippy girl in NY. She wasn’t impressed, but the song went big.
Get Down, Get down, get down...
You’re a bad dog baby, and I don’t want you around!
